ReplyWell, with over 600 high schools in Illinois, I'd say most were left off the list. Let's try to keep some perspective, shall we? It's also not terribly surprising that schools serving communities like Deerfield, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale and Downers Grove are going to have high performing students. I'd call this article alarmist, at best.

I'm glad your son was lucky and you can probably thank the parents of those around him who did vaccinate their children, herd immunity and all. I'd prefer not to gamble with my children's health nor the health of those around them, so we vaccinated on schedule. Measles and pertussis outbreaks are on the rise largely because people skipped the vaccines. There are consequences for those who aren't as lucky as your son.

ReplyIf they are going to choose one time, I agree --- 8:30 should be it. For those who do not think it's a big deal, it's just a few minutes, it is a nightmare for many families. I sincerely hope that people spread the word and get your objections out the BOE before they vote. I'd venture to guess that the vast majority of families have work obligations (You know, to pay our taxes, for starters?!?) and the earlier start time works better for them. Tell your neighbors and make your voices heard!

ReplyDidn't know about the elections? It's laughable enough with signs everywhere, but what adult doesn't know there is a regular election cycle? Talk about needing to be spoon fed.

It's a shame that in a district this size, we are dealing with a coop. And much as I rarely agree with Mr. Ellison -- it is shameful to not have someone with a special education background in this position.
