Winds are 25-35 mph with gusts of 45-50 mph
Hold on to your hats, it’s going to be a windy day! The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect for Kendall County from now until 4:00 p.m. Winds are expected to be 25-35 mph with some gusts going up to 45-50 mph. The NWS says the high winds can cause minor property damage and can make travel hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The Spotlight Youth Theater, featuring actors ages 8- to 18-years-old, will perform "Beauty and the Beast Jr." Feb. 22- March 3 at Oswego East High School, 1525 Harvey Road. The stage production is based on the Academy Award winning animated film and features a cast of over 100 area children, said Wendy Spencer, marketing director for Spotlight in Aurora. "Beauty and the Beast Jr." features the songs made famous in both the film and Broadway version, including "Human Again" and "Be Our Guest." Robin Frisch and her 30-year-old daughter Mara received an early and unexpected Christmas gift last week—the return of Mara’s purse. “It goes to show that the people in Yorkville are just good people,” Frisch said. The mother and daughter team were out Christmas shopping and running other errands when Mara suddenly realized she did not have her purse. The two women retraced their steps in hopes some good Samaritan had turned the purse in to a store for safe keeping. “We were panicked when we first realized the purse was missing, Frisch said in a telephone interview. “We called my daughter’s cell phone hoping to hear it ringing somewhere in the car, but there was nothing.” Frisch, who moved to Yorkville five years ago from Naperville, said …

Aurora University and Oswego-based Celebrate Differences partner to provide holiday party for disabled children and their parents.
Four-year-old Noah, left, and his brother Benjamin Williams, 5, were among 120 children and caregivers meeting Santa Claus at Aurora University on Dec. 1. Some 22 university students staged a fifth-annual party with games, crafts and pizza in the university banquet hall. The event was in partnership with Celebrate Differences, an Oswego-based nonprofit that serves disabled children and their parents. Information from Aurora University.
Omar Gonzalez, 28, of El Paso, Texas was not charged in any local incidents.
A 28-year-old man from El Paso, Texas was arrested Monday, Dec. 3 and found with three outstanding warrants, one of which was for the sexual assault of a child, said Oswego police. Omar Gonazlez, 28, was arrested at 9:11 p.m. in the 2700 block of Route 34. Police had received a call of a suspicious person selling speakers in the parking lot of a business in the 2700 block of Route 34. Upon making contact, police discovered the warrants against Gonzalez. Gonazalez was not charged for any local crimes, police said. Gonazalez was brought to the Kendall County Jail where he will be extradited back to Texas.

Commissioner Leonard Wass’ primary residence is in doubt by fellow commissioners.
To have a seat on the Oswegoland Park District board, one’s primary residence must be within the boundaries of the district. Park Board commissioners, who are often at odds with fellow Commissioner Len Wass, claim that Wass, elected to the Park Board in April 2011, does not consider Oswego his primary residence. At the Park Board meeting last week during the board's tax levy discussion, Wass was vocal for cutting the tax levy by 20 percent, while the rest of the board wanted the levy unchanged. During the conversation, Wass told the public gathered at the meeting, “They want me off the board so they don’t have to hear me stand up for you.” That remark sparked a discussion of Wass’ primary residence. Elected officials say they plan to look at their budgets to see where cuts could be made, but some say their budgets are already tight.
Voters overwhelmingly supported a Tuesday ballot initiative calling for government entities within Kendall County to cut 20 percent from every tax levy and area officials have heard the message. According to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election, 71 percent of voters supported the call for property tax reduction. Mark Johnson, an activist who helped put the referendum on the ballot, said the results speak for themselves. “The people have spoken. Now we’ll see which groups will listen,” Johnson said. Earlier this year a grassroots group called the Kendall County Property Tax Revolt circulated petitions to get this non-binding referendum on the ballot.
