The Student Advisory Board, made up of students at both high schools, is working to promote an anonymous tip hotline.
Say you’re a student at one of Oswego 308's high schools and you witness someone taking a wallet from an unattended desk. What do you do? The Student Advisory Board would recommend that you use the Student Tip Hotline that will connect you anonymously with the Oswego Police Department. The student advisory board – made up of four students of each grade level from Oswego High School and Oswego East High School – address problems within their schools with the Oswego Police and work to find a solution. “It allows both schools direct access to the chief of police,” said Captain Jeff Burgner. “It encourages a very open dialogue and with their input it’s really taken off.” The Student Advisory Board meets at the police station twice a semester …

How many police departments does it take to catch a fleeing vehicle? In the incident involving a Woodridge man, the answer would be three. Jerry Williams Jr., 25, from Woodridge, Ill., was arrested a little after 12 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23 in the area of Route 71 and Hughes Road, and given multiple citations in the incident that involved three different police agencies, said the Kendall County Sheriff’s office At 12:10 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies were notified of a vehicle that had fled a traffic stop in Aurora by Aurora Police. The vehicle entered Kendall County where it was pursued by Oswego Police, but fled from them as well. The Oswego LA Fitness was broken into overnight Sunday, according to Oswego Police. Captain Jeff Burgner said the unknown suspects forced their way into the building through a front door, leaving shattered glass all over the floor sometime between 9 p.m. on Sunday at 5 a.m. on Monday. “Right now we do not have any indications of them being able to steal anything,” said Burgner. As of 10:45 a.m. a person at the LA Fitness front desk said the fitness center is open and everything is running normally. There was also an unrelated hit and run that occurred to a parked car in the LA Fitness parking lot at 7:37 p.m. Sunday. The incident remains under investigation.
Cory M. Paytes, 23, pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery in which he threatened an Oswego Arby’s employee with a handgun in December 2011.
A Boulder Hill man has been sentenced to 12 years for charges of attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery in an incident in December of 2011, according to Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis. Cory M. Paytes, 23, of the 0-99 block of Eastfield Road in Boulder Hill, pled guilty in March 2013 for charges stemming from an incident on Dec. 13, 2011 at the Oswego Arby’s in the 200 block of Douglas Road. Oswego Police responded to an armed robbery in progress and learned that two men wearing ski masks and dark clothing, one armed with a handgun, had forced their way into the Arby’s while an employee was taking out the trash. Incident happened early Monday morning at Route 30 and Fifth Street.
A Montgomery man was charged with a DUI after his vehicle hit a semi-truck at 4:06 a.m. on Monday, March 25, said Oswego Police. Gustavo A. Rojas Jr., 27, of the 2400 block of Columbia Lane, Montgomery, was traveling west on Route 30 when he crossed over the center lane, said Oswego Police Captain Jeff Burgner. His vehicle struck the back end of a semi-truck traveling east on Route 30 and his vehicle left the road. Rojas was reported injured, said Burgner, and was transported to Rush Copley Medical Center. The semi-truck driver was not injured. John P. Wolfinbarger is off the force effective immediately, according to a release from Oswego police.
An Oswego Police officer involved in a standoff with Channahon police last week has resigned from the department, according to a release from the Oswego police department. Eleven-year department veteran John P. Wolfinbarger, of Yorkville, was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and DUI alcohol March 13 after Channahon police responded to a call from patrons at Chicago Pizza & Catering Company that a man with a gun was inside arguing with someone. While witnesses were speaking to police on the scene, they saw Wolfinbarger trying to leave in a black pick-up truck. They surrounded the vehicle, but Wolfinbarger would not speak with police and did not exit the truck for 15 to 20 minutes. Oswego Police Chief Dwight …
Only cash has been reported stolen in the overnight burglaries, said Oswego police.
Oswego Police are investigating several recent overnight burglaries to Oswego businesses. Two businesses at West Van Buren and Adams Street in downtown Oswego were broken into, as well as a business in the 300 block of Fifth Street off of Route 34. A 43-year-old Oswego Police Officer was in custody Wednesday night after a standoff in a plaza off Route 6 in Channahon. John. P. Seven guitars and numerous electronics were stolen in residential burglary incident that happened on March 26, 2012.
Two men have been charged with residential burglary after almost a year-long investigation, said Oswego police. A residential burglary occurred on March 26, 2012 at a home in the 400 block of Terrace Lane, Oswego. During the investigation, seven guitars were found stolen as well as numerous other electronics totaling $19,000, said police. With the North Aurora Police Department, Oswego police were able to locate four subjects in possession of six of the stolen guitars and many of the electronics. Oswego Police posted on their Facebook Wednesday morning that they had responded to a “vulgar work of art” made out of snow on Grapevine Trail.
