Montgomery Offering Saturday Flood Debris Pickup

Spring Clean Up Day will be another opportunity to get rid of flood damaged property.

The following was provided by the village of Montgomery. The Village of Montgomery, along with Republic Services, will offer another waste collection services to assist residents with the disposal of flood damaged debris caused by the recent storms. Residents can dispose of their waste Saturday, April 27. This collection is intended to remove flood damage debris, so other items (listed below) will not be collected. Thank you for observing the size and weight limits on containers and bundles, which are in place for the safety of the refuse workers who will lift and haul this material into the disposal trucks. • All material must be at the curb by 6 a.m. Saturday. • Material must be contained or bundled with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. per …

Village of Montgomery Needs Flood Damage Assessment Info from Residents

The deadline to return information to the village is Thursday.

The village of Montgomery is asking residents to complete flood damage assessment forms that may help the village receive additional flood aid from the federal government.  According to the village: This information is vital to qualifying for Federal disaster assistance--your participation is crucial. We have a very tight timeline—please submit your information--including the county in which you reside--to the Village’s public works department by 4 pm, Thursday, April 25, 2013. Forms are available by clicking here; once completed, they can be returned to the Village Hall, faxed to the public works department at 630-896-5203, or emailed to madryk@ci.montgomery.il.us.

Crimes Against the Elderly Focus of Village Program

A presentation on crimes against the elderly will be offered at the Montgomery Village Hall at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9.

The following information was provided by the village of Montgomery. A presentation on crimes against the elderly will be offered at the Montgomery Village Hall at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9.  Police Officer Jon Fritz will discuss how to recognize and deal with sweepstakes scams, identity theft, home repair fraud and other such crimes.  Prior to this presentation, a representative from Senior Services Associates will provide information about services available through that organization. This program is offered by the Village of Montgomery as part of its Senior Citizen Program.  There is no charge and the event is handicap accessible.  The monthly Senior Lunch and activity for ages 55 and up will begin at 11 a.m. after the presentation.  …

Montgomery Community Development Wants to Hear from You

The Village was the recipient of a $100,000 grant to be used for comprehensive planning and will begin the process this spring.

The Village of Montgomery Community Development Department seeks to engage residents this year with a public input component of the Village’s comprehensive planning process and increased code enforcement education. “Interaction with citizens is crucial,” said Assistant Village Administrator Jamie Ludovic, head of the Community Development Department.  “The comprehensive plan and code enforcement are two great opportunities to get more input.” The Village was the recipient of a $100,000 grant to be used for comprehensive planning and will begin the process this spring.  Public input serves as a major component of the planning methods. “We want to focus on engaging residents to help us keep Montgomery a great community,” Ludovic said.  “This…

Census: Montgomery Bests State Averages for Home Ownership, Income

Released Thursday, the five-year American Community Survey offers detailed demographic information on communities throughout the U.S.

The U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday released estimates from its American Community Survey, which provides local statistics for the combined years from 2007 to 2011 on everything from housing to employment to marital status in communities throughout the country. The numbers look promising for the village of Montgomery, with an estimated median household income of $72,872. That's about $16,000 more than the Illinois average and a the village has a homeownership rate of more than 85 percent — topping the state average of 68.7 percent. On the employment front, more than half of the village's 18,688 residents, or about 12,205, are ages 16 and older. More than 9,202 people make up the village's civilian labor force, according to the data, and 69.…

Montgomery Fest: How The Village Got This Party Started

Pat Torrance takes you through the history of Montgomery Fest, which this year is set for August 11 and 12.

Long before the official Montgomery Fest celebrations began, Montgomery always held an annual summertime event, most often a carnival, that drew people together. The first carnival was held on a vacant lot across from the Michaels Brothers grocery store, at the corner of Main and Webster streets. There were food booths, cotton candy, and the typical games and rides, with the ferris wheel being the main attraction. The music and the laughter could be heard throughout the village. Later, the VFW began to host a carnival on River Street. This brought visitors to the village from far and wide and was a successful celebration, until a few out-of-town rowdies began to make trouble, and the situation became dangerous.
