Last Chance: Toys for Tots Donations

Patch keeps you current on upcoming deadlines with the "Last Chance" feature.

Today is the last day to donate toys for the Fox Valley Toys for Tots program. Montgomery residents can drop off new, unwrapped items at several places in the village, including Village Hall, the Montgomery Police Department, and the Fox Valley Park District Police Station, 1460 SE River Road. Toys for Tots: The Heartfelt Gift of Kindness

Weekly musings from Jeff Long, public relations manager for the Fox Valley Park District.

For all the economic indicators that are bandied about in the media each day, none of them are really understandable to an underprivileged child. Nor do they make a difference. To these young people whose families are struggling, they only know what they have. Or, more accurately, what they don’t have. The holidays can be a particularly tough time. While other children enjoy overflow celebrations and plentiful presents under the tree, the less fortunate raise a cup that’s half-empty. That reality has hit home with the Fox Valley Park District, among other local agencies, businesses and organizations. Once again, the Park District is serving as an active partner in local collection efforts to provide gifts for children as part of the …

Montgomery Toys for Tots Program Going Strong

Currently toys are needed for about 450 children in the Fox Valley area.

While some parents already have their children's Christmas gifts bought and paid for, other parents know their children will likely have to go without this year. And that’s where the Marines step in with their annual Toys for Tots program. “Kids don’t understand the economy or why daddy’s not going to work,” said Frank Gordon, a former Marine who started volunteering for Fox Valley Toys for Tots six years ago. “(Despite the economy) we’ve got to at least have Christmas for kids.” Montgomery residents can help further the program by dropping off new, unwrapped items at several places in the village, including Village Hall, the Montgomery Police Department, and the Fox Valley Park District Police Station, 1460 SE River Road. Toys are being …

Oswego Fire Protection District Hosting Annual Toy Drive

Junior high students have the chance to be "elves for a day" and help load the toys into fire engines.

The Oswego Fire Protection District is holding its sixth annual toy drive in their quest to ensure that every local child has a toy this holiday season.  The OFPD, in conjunction with the Oswegoland Optimist Club and the Marine Corps Reserve, will collect new, unwrapped toys at all four of their fire station locations through Dec. 20. The toys will then be given to the Oswegoland Optimist Club to distribute through their Needy Family Christmas Project. As tradition, the OFPD is also working with all District 308 junior high schools for a second toy drive that offers students the chance go be an elf for a day. Lt. John Cornish explained that for each, unopened toy a student donates they would receive a raffle ticket. 10 students will be …

Toys for Tots Drive Underway

Drop off new, unwrapped toys at local firehouses.

The Oswego Fire Protection District once again has begun its annual Toys for Tots campaign.  The OFPD will work in conjunction with Plank, Traughber, Bednarcik and Thompson junior highs, as well as the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves to collect toys for needy area children this holiday season. "We are working to ensure that children in our area have a toy during this holiday season," said Lt. John Cornish. "This year is more important than ever, with respect to the current economic times." All four Oswego firehouses will be collection sites for the drive, and new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at any time. The toys will be distributed by the Oswegoland Optimist Club. The drive will also include collection at each of the junior highs and …
