Fox Valley Park District Happenings

Stuart Expansion Will Create Field(s) of Dreams

Weekly musings from Jeff Long, public relations manager with the Fox Valley Park District.

“Build it and they will come.” That old axiom used to be the norm, though the economy has made such a prediction a little less reliable these days. But that isn’t the case with local athletic fields; specifically, ball diamonds and soccer fields. As the region’s population grows, demand for these facilities continues to exceed what is available. To address this ongoing shortage, the Fox Valley Park District is turning a lot of earth. Perhaps you’ve heard of the upcoming expansion of the Stuart Sports Complex. It’s going to be huge—literally. Between Baseline Road (Route 30) and the south end of the current park border, 135 acres of empty land will be transformed into four new ball fields with lights and 11 new soccer fields. When the dirt …

Stuart Sports Complex Expansion Gets Final Approval

Work is expected to start this spring on the Fox Valley Park District's 135-acre expansion of Stuart Sports Complex, which will include 11 new soccer fields and four new lighted baseball diamonds.

After years of planning and months of discussion, the expansion of Stuart Sports Complex in Montgomery received its final approval Monday night. The Fox Valley Park District plans to start construction on the new complex in the spring. The expansion covers 135 acres north of Route 30 and west of the police station on Civic Center Drive, and will be designed to blend in with the police station campus. Stuart Sports Complex currently has 25 full-size soccer fields and four baseball diamonds. The expansion will add four lighted baseball fields, 11 soccer fields, 674 new parking spaces and a dog park, and will make room for a planned westward expansion of Aucutt Road, something that has been on the village books for years. On Monday, village …

Agreement for Stuart Sports Complex Expansion Up for Vote Monday

The Village Board will vote on an agreement to bring a 135-acre expansion to the Fox Valley Park District's recreational complex later this year. Details of the agreement are below.

It’s been in the works for more than five years. And on Monday night, the Montgomery Village Board will vote on the intergovernmental agreement that will make the expansion of Stuart Sports Complex a reality. Stuart Sports Complex is the Fox Valley Park District’s massive recreation center in the heart of the village. It currently sports 25 full-size soccer fields and four baseball diamonds. The park district plans a 135-acre expansion, north of Route 30 and west of the Montgomery Police Station. The project will add four lighted baseball fields, 11 soccer fields, 674 new parking spaces and a dog park to the complex. The project will be designed to blend in with the police station campus, and will make room for a future planned expansion …

Village Board to Vote on Final Stuart Sports Complex Plan

The long-gestating expansion of the west side complex will include 11 soccer fields, four baseball fields, a dog park and 674 parking spaces. The Village Board is scheduled to vote on final approval on Jan. 23.

The expansion of Stuart Sports Complex is set to receive its final village approval by the end of the month. On Thursday, the Montgomery Plan Commission unanimously granted the Fox Valley Park District final plat approval and a special use for their planned project, which will add four lighted baseball fields, 11 soccer fields, 674 new parking spaces and a dog park to the complex, just north of Route 30 on the west side. The large central park currently sports 25 full-size soccer fields and four baseball diamonds. The expansion will allow the park district to meet demand, officials say, even though this current plan is significantly scaled back from the original 2007 proposal. The Village Board gave their approval to the expansion in …

Rhonda Hill, thank you for attending the meeting and adding your comments to the deliberation. I am sensitive also to the impact of this development on the immediate surrounding neighborhoods. I have worked to also have at least some land set-aside for non-league play where families can fly kites, launch model rockets -- just let the kids romp and play on well cushioned turf. This free-play area …   more ›

Stuart Sports Complex Expansion Gets Green Light

Trustees voted Monday night to approve the new complex, which will include 11 new soccer fields, four new baseball fields, a dog park, and 630 new parking spaces.

Village trustees gave the go-ahead Monday night to the expansion of Stuart Sports Complex. The Fox Valley Park District’s large central park in the heart of the village, Stuart Sports Complex currently sports 25 full-size soccer fields and four baseball diamonds. The park district plans to build onto Stuart Sports Complex to the south, constructing 11 new soccer fields (many of which can be used for multiple purposes), four lighted baseball/softball diamonds, a dog park, a picnic area, bike paths, and three new parking lots totaling 630 spaces. This is a scaled-down version of the original expansion plan, proposed in 2007. That would have seen 16 new soccer fields and eight baseball fields, but with the sinking economy, and the …

Yes, there will be a bike trail on Orchard (being added with expansion project) so you will be able to ride your bike from Foxmoor (or from areas south of Route 30) along Orchard Road to the Gilman bike trail at Orchard and Prairie. That's basically the only nice thing about this project. Now 36 soccer fields?! We don't need more soccer fields that are only for private, paid use - Bond brought …   more ›

Plan Commission Gives Nod to Expanded Stuart Sports Complex

Commissioners on Thursday unanimously recommended the concept plan, which will see 11 new soccer fields and four new baseball diamonds built to the south of the existing complex.

The new, expanded Stuart Sports Complex moved one step closer to reality Thursday night, as Montgomery’s Plan Commission unanimously recommended the project to the Village Board. Stuart Sports Complex is the Fox Valley Park District’s large central park, in the heart of the village. It currently features 25 full-size soccer fields and four baseball diamonds, but with the population explosion in and around Montgomery over the past decade, the demand for field space has increased. The park district plans to build onto Stuart Sports Complex to the south, constructing 11 new soccer fields (many of which can be used for multiple purposes), four lighted baseball/softball diamonds, a dog park, a picnic area, bike paths, and three new parking lots…
