As most kids have figured out, there is an ingenious way to toe the line while still adhering to the “no running” policy at swimming pools and water parks. It’s called “fast walking,” similar to that funky fitness strut that’s so popular on sidewalks and trails. That’s certainly how folks prefer to get around at Splash Country Water Park and Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center as they hurriedly scamper up the slides for another exciting swoosh into the pools below. Yes, the anticipation and adrenalin are pumping. Both water parks open at noon this Saturday, and there’s plenty to be excited about. Here’s a preview: Splash Country Set against a backdrop of rolling farm fields on the far west edge of Aurora, the idyllic scene is an old-meets-…

The Fox Valley Park District is offering a $10 discount on their season passes for their two water parks, but only through the end of the day today.
Listen. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of a ticking clock, letting you know that time is running out on another great deal. Welcome back to Last Chance, where we spotlight something cool with a deadline. Everything we feature here in Last Chance will be a one-time deal, and when time is up, time is up. But the pools never opened, and the heat wave subsided. So now it’s back to waiting for summer’s official arrival in June. If the last streak of high temperatures is any indication, it’s going to be one hot summer. That’s why this double-dandy season pass to two water parks is so exciting. Through the end of April, the Fox Valley Park District is offering dirt-cheap season passes that can be used at both of its water parks – Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center and Splash Country Water Park. Preseason prices range from $35 to $65 depending on age and residency, but regardless of which pass …

Not long ago, local swimming options were pretty basic. Public pools were few and far between, located at select playgrounds, and consisted of a shallow end, a deep end and, maybe, a diving board. Grandiose facilities like Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center and Splash Country Water Park were still a futuristic dream. We didn’t know what we were missing back then. It certainly didn’t diminish our fun—we spent almost every day at the pool—but the facilities today take swimming and water adventure to new levels. Phillips Park was one of the first water parks of its kind in this area when it opened in 1991. On Saturday, the popular water park celebrates its 20th birthday. Splash Country, which opened several years later on the west side, will…
