Police Blotter: Speeding Leads to DUI Arrest

Jorge Soberal, 40, was driving 75 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Jorge Soberal, 40, of the 1100 block of Front Street, Aurora was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped his vehicle for driving 75 mph in a 30 mph zone at 2:45 a.m. Nov. 19 at Montgomery Road and Crown Drive, police said. Reports state a passenger of the vehicle, Raul Guzman-Rico, 34, of the 300 block of East New York Street, Aurora, was arrested on a Kane County Sheriff’s Department no insurance warrant.

Traffic Safety Campaign to Start Tomorrow

Drivers on Ogden Avenue should watch their speed and pay attention to other safety measures Tuesday.

Law enforcement agencies along the Ogden Avenue corridor through DuPage, Cook, Kane and Kendall Counties will join forces in a special traffic safety campaign Tuesday. Police will be on the lookout for drivers that are speeding, not wearing safety belts or committing other safety violations. The purpose of the campaign is to increase the safety of motorists using the thoroughfare through education and traffic enforcement. The following twelve police agencies will be part of the campaign: Each jurisdiction will implement their own enforcement action based on the needs of their communities. Rt. 30 Speeders Target of Next Wednesday's Awareness Day

The primary emphasis of Speed Awareness Day will be the enforcement of laws associated with the posted speed limits along Route 30.

Local police departments are asking drivers to help make the roads safer for themselves, other motorists and pedestrians by always obeying the speed when travelling on Route 30. During the Speed Awareness Day set for Wednesday, Aug. 8, more than a dozen police departments will be out in force along Route 30 to educate motorists through both enforcement and education. The event is held in conjunction with Families Against Chronic Excessive Speeding, a nonprofit group dedicated to educating the public to the dangers of speeding. Sheriff's Blotter: Cubs Flag Stolen, Battery, Possession of a Controlled Substance

A look at recent police reports provided by the Kendall County Sheriff's department.

Cubs flag stolen A Cubs flag and flagpole were stolen from the front of a residence sometime overnight in the first block of Amesbury Road, according to reports. Possession of a controlled substance, speeding Lied W. Otto, 35, 56 Fernwood Road, Montgomery, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police found a small plastic bag containing a white powder substance believed to be cocaine on him during a traffic stop at 12:46 a.m. at Fernwood and Woodridge roads, according to reports. Otto was also arrested for speeding 40 or miles an hour above the speed limit, police said. Battery Tony W. Hughes, 48, 38 Afton Drive, Montgomery, was charged with battery at 8:50 p.m. at his residence, according to reports.

No Drunken Drivers in Kendall Holiday Crackdown

The Kendall County Sheriff's Department has released results of its two-week enforcement campaign, which include 12 seatbelt citations and three speeding tickets - but no drunken driving arrests.

The slogan of the campaign was “Drive sober, or get pulled over.” But in the end, Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies charged no one with drunken driving during a two-week Christmas and New Year’s holiday enforcement crackdown. They did, however, write 12 citations for drivers (and one passenger) not wearing a seat belt, the most common infraction, according to results of the enforcement campaign released last week. They wrote up three drivers for speeding, three for driving without insurance, and three more for driving with expired plates, according to Deputy Craig French. The Kendall Sheriff joined up with other state and local law enforcement agencies on the campaign, which included higher-visibility enforcement and a strategic media …

Just a little patience, yeah yeah Several parents reported a man in a newer model Volkswagen Passat yelling obscenities at parents of students trying to get on buses in the 0-99 block of Ashlawn Avenue in Montgomery around 8 a.m., Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies said. The man was reportedly aggravated with the amount of time if took for students to board the bus, and began “verbally assaulting” parents and the bus driver, police said. Broken doors, stolen phone Kevin Cook, 49, of the 0-99 block of Afton Drive in Boulder Hill, was charged with theft and criminal damage to property after he allegedly damaged two doors at his wife’s home in the 0-99 block of Sonora Road in Oswego and stole a cell phone around 2:25 p.m., Kendall County …

Heavy Traffic Frustrates Mayfield Drive Residents

Despite years of studies and police enforcement, homeowners along this west side road remain unsatisfied with the village's response to traffic issues.

Joy Litton stands in her driveway on Mayfield Drive, on the west side of Montgomery. It’s an unseasonably warm day in early March, and her eight-year-old daughter is playing in the yard. Litton keeps a sharp eye on her as she notices a car driving their direction. The car zips past and turns right on Concord Drive, at the end of Mayfield. Litton shakes her head and says, “You can’t tell me that person was doing 25 miles per hour. I just don’t believe it.” For the next few minutes, Litton observes the traffic on her street. Car after car – more than you’d expect on a residential street at 3:30 in the afternoon – passes by, many of them going at a good clip.  Vandalism to home, vehicle  Someone spray-painted a home and vehicle in the 0-99 block of Hampton Road in Montgomery between 4 p.m. on March 9 and 3 a.m. on March 10, Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies said. The incident is being investigated, according to police. Speeding leads to warrant arrest Michael Andrew Sutphin, 41, of the 0-99 block of Marnel Road in Boulder Hill, was taken into custody on an outstanding traffic warrant after police stopped him for speeding at 6:03 a.m. at Route 25 and Glendale Road in Oswego Township, Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies said.
