A juvenile male was found with an Airsoft pistol in the parking lot of the church, according to police.
Yorkville police responded in force to calls reporting someone with a gun in front of St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Monday afternoon. "It was mayhem for a while," Police Chief Richard Hart said after it was all over late Monday afternoon. Sometime between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m., a 911 call reported a young man carrying a handgun, Hart said. That is about the same time children show up to the church for religious studies classes, said Father Matt Lamoureux, pastor of St. Patrick's. Hart said he was one of the first officers to respond and they found a 17-year-old juvenile male in the parking lot carrying what Hart described as an Airsoft pistol that looked like a lethal handgun. Police descended on the juvenile with weapons drawn, Hart said…

Vaughn was convicted this summer of killing his wife and three children in a desperate attempt to free himself from responsibilities and start a new life.
Christopher Vaughn had set a plan in motion to start a new life in the Yukon with an unwitting Chicago stripper on whom he had a secret crush. Instead, he will be starting a new life in prison, and he will be staying there until he dies. Vaughn, 38, faces an automatic life sentence for killing his wife, 34-year-old Kimberly Vaughn, and three children—Blake, 8, Cassandra, 11, and Abigayle, 12—in June 2007. The Oswego man will still go through what is expected to be a lengthy sentencing hearing today. Members of Kimberly Vaughn's family are scheduled to testify. The Vaughns were making an early morning trip to a Springfield waterpark when Christopher Vaughn pulled off Interstate 55 and stopped on the frontage road outside Channahon. He …

Heath Thomas, regional manager for Goodrich Quality Theaters, says security measures in place at the Kendall 10 will keep patrons safe in the wake of the Aurora, Colo. shooting tragedy.
The shootings in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning left 12 dead, 50 injured and a nation in shock. But the crimes were the work of an individual in need of professional help, and were not targeted toward movie theaters, nor the blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises, according to Heath Thomas, manager of Goodrich Quality Theaters’ western region. Colorado police have arrested 24-year-old James Holmes in connection with the shooting, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Police said Holmes is accused of entering the Denver-area theater during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, armed with tear gas, an assault rifle, a shotgun and two pistols. After letting off the tear gas, police said, Holmes opened fire. Police later found him in …
"The Dark Knight Rises" plays in theaters everywhere—a reminder that senseless, horrific violence has no hometown.
The Aurora theater shooting news first came around at 5:20 a.m. today in an e-mail alert: NATIONAL REPORT: AURORA CO: @0115 GMT AN MCI FOR 20+ GSW VICS IN THE 14000 BLOCK OF EAST ALAMEDA AVE 'CENTURY 16 MOVIE THEATER' RPTD GUNMAN USED TEAR GAS AND BODY ARMOR (41,AP) -- At first, I saw "Aurora" and thought immediately of our good neighbor, where I have so many friends. Then I was shocked when the news began to play out in the national media about the Colorado theater shootings. It's the kind of senseless violence that we've seen too often in recent years, and I'm sure it will call up images from Columbine and more discussion about the violence we see in films and video games. The Matrix was blamed in the Columbine case. More discussion will…

A look back at some stories you may have missed on Montgomery Patch this week.
Montgomery Patch, week three! This was a crazy one. Our goofy welcome video was posted on Monday, and it took off: more than 2,000 page views so far, and more than 600 recommendations on Facebook. Thanks to everyone who watched and commented and passed it around. But there was plenty of actual news this week, too. Here’s a rundown of five items you may have missed: 1. A drive-by shooting Wednesday in a traditionally peaceful Boulder Hill neighborhood has some neighbors shaken up. There were no injuries reported, and police are still searching for a black minivan. 2. A Montgomery man was seriously injured in a rollover crash on Wednesday. He remains in good condition at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. 3. West Aurora School District …

What's in the safe? Is the dog a 'bulldog' or a pit? Sounds like the shooters knew how to find what they wanted; therefore, it's not a random crime. I'd like a description of the residents, too. Were they acquainted with their visitors?   more ›
