A free presentation on “Spies of the Civil War” will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Montgomery Village Hall. Jim Weren, a local artist and researcher on the Civil War, will present this entertaining and informative program. At the onset of the conflict, neither the North nor South was prepared to obtain the vital information it needed about its enemy. The Civil War spy had to be willing, brave and intelligent to avoid capture. Amateurs were welcome and became the core of spy systems.
