Chelsea Chandler, an Aurora University sophomore, participated in the AU Sleep Out on the Quad to raise awareness for homelessness. Her experience prompted her to collect over 700 items for Hesed House and more.
One night of sleeping outside in freezing temperatures motivated Chelsea Chandler to take action and help the homeless. Her efforts resulted in the donation of nearly 700 items. Chandler, 20, is a sophomore studying Special Education at Aurora University (AU). Last October, Chandler joined fellow AU students and staff in Sleep Out on the Quad to raise awareness for homelessness. Chandler said that more than 100 students participated in the Sleep Out, with a low temperature that night of 36 degrees. The night included talks led by homeless individuals and a simulated experience of begging for food. “The next day I had a heavy heart and so much compassion. OHS students Ashley Blocker and Cora Tu placed first and honorable mention, respectively, in the second annual show.
Batavia High School hosted it's second annual "i heart art" show at their newly built Fine Arts Center where nine high schools in the Fox Valley area participated. Out of the hundreds of work displayed, the show gave out a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place, as well as two honorable mentions. Kari Kraus, an artist from the Water Street Studios, adjudicated the show. She will be at the opening on the January 31st to present awards to the following Oswego High School students: 1st Place: Ashley Blocker, Little Girl Honorable Mention: Cora Tu, Buddha The show is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and awards will be announced at 6:30 p.m. The entrance to the Batavia Fine Arts Center is on the north side of Batavia High School off of Wilson St.

Oswego District 308 Superintendent Matthew Wendt Monday night addressed concerns around the rumors of violence that started circulating at Oswego High School last Tuesday. Wendt said the rumors started Dec. 11 at Oswego High School and spread quickly through the school community. The district worked with law enforcement that day and the next to find the source of the rumor that had remained contained at Oswego High School. Two days later, however, Wendt said the situation had “mushroomed” with rumors spreading across town to Oswego East High School and several of the junior highs. “It became something managing us instead of us managing it,” he said. 142 students in District 308 received the honor.
142 Oswego Community Unit School District 308 high school students have been recognized as Illinois State Scholars. The students are among 18,863 students from across the state selected by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) for this prestigious award. Illinois State Scholar winners rank in the top ten percent of the state’s high school seniors from 749 high schools across the state. Free admission to all those who donate toys to the upcoming wrestling match.
Oswego's wrestling teams are taking donations for the Toys for Tots program during their Dec. 6 match at Oswego High School. Calling it “Grappler’s For a Cause Toy Drive”, wrestling teams are accepting new, unwrapped toys, which will go to an area family in need for the holiday season. This is the third time the teams have participated in the toy drive. Despite the overcast skies, the Oswego High School parade marched to a cheery start. The Panther Marching Band was first down the street, followed by many of the fall sports, clubs and organizations and the homecoming court. Homecoming season has come to Oswego, and Oswego High School is gearing up for its annual homecoming parade Wednesday, Oct. 3. This event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and will end at about 6:30 p.m. The parade route will include the following streets: Many of these streets run through the Village’s downtown area and intersect with busy intersections. Traffic will be periodically stopped to allow for the parade to proceed through the downtown area. Expect delays if you are traveling through downtown Oswego during the above times. It is recommended to find an alternate route if possible. Oswego Police Officers and Community Service Officers will be located at intersections most affected by the parade route and will assist with traffic …
