Oswego Panthers Narrowly Beat Oswego Wolves in Girls Regional Soccer Match

The Oswego High School team will take on Plainfield North in the second regional match on Friday.

It was a game seperated only by a single point throughout, but the Oswego Panthers girls soccer team will be advancing onto regionals after defeating the Oswego Wolves 2-1. The Oswego High School Panthers (now 13-6-1) took on the Oswego East High School Wolves (6-8) Wednesday afternoon at Oswego High School in the first regional game and the second crosstown game of the season. The game remained scoreless until only 2:20 left in the first half when Oswego midfielder Kelsey Kraft (#12) scored the first goal.  The game went into half after 40 minutes with the Wolves trailing by one. Head coach of the Wolves, Lauren Anderson, gave her team a pep talk during their huddle, telling them not to care about the score. "Keep doing what you're doing…

Oswego East, Oswego Induct National Honor Society Students

62 students from Oswego East and 90 students from Oswego High School were inducted into their respective schools National Honor Societies.

The Oswego East High School and Oswego High School chapters of the National Honor Society inducted many new members last month. 62 students from the junior and senior classes were selected for membership by the faculty council at Oswego East and were inducted on April 10. 90 students from junior and senior classes were inducted at Oswego High school on April 24. Selection for membership was based on the four core virtues of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, Character, Service and Leadership.  Students with a class ranking of junior or senior who also met the 3.5 grade point average Scholastic requirement were invited to apply for membership.  Eligible students completed the application process and were then evaluated based on the …

District 308 High School Students Work with Oswego Police to Stop Crime

The Student Advisory Board, made up of students at both high schools, is working to promote an anonymous tip hotline.

Say you’re a student at one of Oswego 308's high schools and you witness someone taking a wallet from an unattended desk. What do you do? The Student Advisory Board would recommend that you use the Student Tip Hotline that will connect you anonymously with the Oswego Police Department. The student advisory board – made up of four students of each grade level from Oswego High School and Oswego East High School – address problems within their schools with the Oswego Police and work to find a solution. “It allows both schools direct access to the chief of police,” said Captain Jeff Burgner. “It encourages a very open dialogue and with their input it’s really taken off.” The Student Advisory Board meets at the police station twice a semester …

Oswego And Oswego East Girls Soccer Teams Lacing Up for a Cause

Teams will be hosting several games and events to raise money for pediatric cancer.

The Oswego and Oswego East girls soccer teams are teaming up to fight pediatric cancer. The event, called Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer, will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Oswego High School soccer fields. The event’s purpose is to help children and their families that have been affected by cancer. Tickets will be sold for family fun events and there will be food available from Chick-fil-A and a variety of concessions and a bake sale. Soccer games will be played throughout the day, which are free to attend. The line-up is as follows. The family fun events will go from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include a bags tournament, kite flying “shoot the hoop,” a bounce house and face painting.

Oswego 308 Culinary and Management teams Take Top-Placing State Wins

Oswego East takes second in both culinary and management and Oswego takes fourth in management and fifth in culinary.

The District 308 Culinary Program whipped up some appetizing wins at the Illinois ProStart Student Invitation Competition at Kendall College in Chicago in late February.  Oswego East High School students earned two top state wins with both the Management Team and Culinary Team receiving second-place honors. The Culinary Team just missed the top spot by 1 point. In recognition of their talents, Oswego East team members garnered approximately $36,000 in total scholarships from a variety of nationally-recognized culinary and hospitality schools.  Oswego East students Gail Baltar, Matt Denor and Nick Love competed on the Management Team and students Rebecca Abraham, Adriana Cardenas and Lynnette Rogers teamed up for the Culinary competition.  …

Hatcher, Cross Planning Drug Abuse Forum

Evening is co-sponsored by the Oswego Police and District 308.

State Reps. Kay Hatcher, R-Yorkville, and Tom Cross, R-Oswego, will host a drug abuse forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, according to the Oswego District 308 website.   The forum will be held at Oswego High School, and is co-sponsored by the Oswego Police Department and District 308. Topics covered will include “establishing a dialogue and raising awareness among public officials, law enforcement, educators and local families regarding the risks of substance abuse in our community; including the threat of heroin, marijuana, prescription drug abuse and alcohol among teens and young adults.” Families are welcome, and light refreshments will be provided. OHS Students Place First in SPC Fine Arts Competition

Look at the winning artists with their works.

Oswego High School attended and participated in the annual Southwest Prairie Conference (SPC) Fine Arts Competition and Workshop earlier in March at Plainfield South High School. Oswego received first place this year to become conference champions for the fifth year in a row.  Individual student placements include: First Place Second Place Third Place Congrats to all our student artists! 51 Oswego and Oswego East Students Chosen for SPC Honor Band

The band played on Feb. 19 at Oswego High School.

Fifty-one District 308 high school band members were chosen to participate in the 2013 Southwest Prairie Conference Honor Bands festival on February 19.  The festival was held at Oswego High School and had several guest conductors, including:Dr. Charlie Menghini, Director of Bands and President at Vandercook College of Music, Chicago; and John Heath, retired Director of Bands at Batavia High School in Batavia and past president of the Illinois Music Educator Association. Select musicians from Oswego East High School, Oswego High School, Minooka High School, Plainfield Central High School, Plainfield South High School, Plainfield North High School, Plainfield East High School and Romeoville High School had the opportunity to rehearse with …

Snapshots: Oswego Panthers Vs. Oswego East Basketball

Did you make it to the Crosstown Classic Basketball game last Friday? Upload your shots of the game!

Last Friday night was an explosion of blue, orange and silver as both girls and boys basketball teams battled it out in the annual Crosstown Classic of the Oswego High School Panthers vs. Oswego East High School Wolves.  The Panthers emerged victorious in both games, with the boys final score 73-60 and the girls score a very close 49-44.  Oswego's Elliott McGaughy (20) became the Panthers' leading all-time scorer by notching 31 points and nine rebounds in a 73-60 win over visiting Oswego East.
