Great Event last evening. What was missing was dialog between staff and elected officials. The only elected were Bill Keck (Trustee) who is running for President and Andy Kaczmarek (Trustee) who also is running again for that position. I (Greg Nelson) who again is running for Trustee were the only candidates there to talk to Boulder Hill Residents. It is important for Montgomery Staff and …   more ›

Is Yorkville doing a similar event? Didn't see anything in the Yorkville patch but my son heard something about this during his fire station tour yesterday with school.   more ›

Families Enjoy Montgomery Fire Department Open House on Saturday

Hundreds turned out for this year's open house, at the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Station on Railroad Street, and helped raise money for breast cancer awareness.

It was perfect weather Saturday for the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District's annual open house, and families from Montgomery and beyond took advantage of it. Hundreds trekked down to the department's station on Railroad Street for some free food (cooked up by firefighters) and tours of the facility. Kids got the chance to sit in a fire truck, aim a fire hose, and play in an inflatable bounce house. But it wasn't all fun and games: firefighters were there to give tips on fire safety, and the Sandwich Fire Department brought down their mobile safety trailer, also known as a "smoke house." The trailer, mocked up inside to resemble a house, is equipped with a smoke generator, to simulate fire conditions. Kids learned not to …

Montgomery Fire Department to Hold Open House on Saturday

The Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District will throw open the doors of its Railroad Street station and welcome the public on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Most people don’t think about their local fire department until they need them. But organizers of Saturday’s open house at the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District on Railroad Street hope to change that. On the second Saturday in October every year, the fire department throws open its doors to the public. Lt. Andrea Montgomery explained that part of the reason they do this is to educate people on the different services the department offers, beyond just responding to 911 calls. Saturday’s event will include a car seat check, information on smoke detectors, a fire safety trailer (in which kids can learn the best ways to prevent and escape fires), and opportunities for kids to try on firefighter gear and use fire hoses. Tours …

Village Residents Tour Police Station, Meet Officials at Open House

The annual event brought Montgomery residents face to face with their village leaders, and gave them a behind-the-scenes look at the police station.

The weather was not ideal, but Montgomery residents showed up for the village’s annual open house on Saturday morning in force anyway. The event, which was held at the police station on Civic Center Drive, allowed residents to meet their village officials, get the latest on projects (both planned and in progress), support the Special Olympics by purchasing t-shirts and travel mugs, and take a tour of the relatively new station, which opened in 2005. That last attraction proved popular, as families lined up to head back through the sprawling building. Police Department employees showed off the jail cells, the evidence rooms and the firing range. Kids delighted at the police cars, fire trucks and public works vehicles on display. …

Five Things to Do at Montgomery's Open House

The annual event is set for Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the police station. Here are five reasons to come on by.

There’s a veritable cornucopia of interesting activities awaiting you at this year’s Montgomery Open House on Saturday. Here’s a look at five things to do at the open house: 1. Meet your village officials. This is an obvious one, but the chance for one-on-one access to the people who govern Montgomery is important enough to clinch the top spot. Village President Marilyn Michelini will be on hand, as will several trustees and staffers. If you have a question or a problem, this is where you can meet the people who can answer or solve it. 2. Tour the police station. You ever drive by that massive building off of Route 30 and wonder just what goes on inside? Montgomery police will give you a first-hand look at how they do business every day. 3…
