Kane Mayors, Managers, Aldermen Meet with Lawmakers on Local Impacts of Pension Reform

The local government distributive fund and rising public safety pension costs are among the topics.

Representatives from several Kane County municipalities traveled to Springfield Tuesday, May 14, to advocate their position on several issues, including the instability of the local government distributive fund and rising public safety pension costs. Village President Patsy Smith and Trustee Mike Millette of Campton Hills, Batavia Aldermen Dan Chanzit and Kyle Hohmann, East Dundee Village President Lael Miller, Montgomery Village President Matt Brolley and Montgomery Trustee Steve Jungermann were in Springfield as part of the Metro West Council of Government's annual Drive Down event. Restoration of Spanish American War Cannon Taking Shape

Rededication ceremony planned after months of work.

Back in the cold months of December I was informed of the condition of the 1889 Spanish American War Cannon that was sitting in the beautiful Riverside Cemetery in Montgomery. When I drove by to take a look I was sick to my stomach to see the condition the cannon was in. Rusted and deteriorating carriage, rotted spokes and fellis, wheels falling off, missing parts and 50 coats of rough paint. I had to do something to help preserve this piece of history. With the blessing of Dieterle Memorial Home and the Village of Montgomery I went to work. I started a fund raising effort to refurbish and save the cannon. I found Fox Valley Sandblasting Co. in Yorkville, (Jim Schwebke), Aurora Sign Co. Boulder Hill Water Main Improvements Project Open House Tonight in Montgomery

During the open house, attendees can view various exhibits, ask questions, and provide comments.

Montgomery officials will be holding a project open house on the upcoming water main improvements from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, at Boulder Hill Elementary School, 163 Boulder Hill Pass, Montgomery. Construction, which will begin this year, will involve replacing approximately 18,000 feet of water main and related accessories with the purpose of improving water main quality. The locations of the proposed improvements can be viewed by clicking here. During the open house, attendees can view various exhibits, ask questions, and provide comments. Next Dime Jingle for Seniors is Feb. 20

The village of Montgomery hosts a Dime Jingle game from 10 a.m. until noon on the third Wednesday of each month at the Village Hall, 200 N. River St., as part of the Senior Program. The next Dime Jingle game will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20. No skills are needed for this simple game. For a $2 admission charge, the village will provide the $1.90 in change needed to play the various rounds of the game as well as light refreshments. To sign up, call 630-896-8080 ext. 1227.

Montgomery Code Enforcement Officer Accepts First Vice President Role

Rouse-DeVore, Montgomery’s code enforcement officer, was hired by the village in April and accepted the Illinois Association of Code Enforcement position in December.

Laura Rouse-DeVore had only been a code enforcement officer in Illinois for a few months before she was nominated for a noteworthy role. Rouse-DeVore has been elected to serve as the first vice president of the Illinois Association of Code Enforcement. Rouse-DeVore, Montgomery’s code enforcement officer, was hired by the village in April and accepted the IACE position in December. Montgomery Winner in Annual Water Taste Test Contest

Montgomery competed with nine other entries from communities throughout Kane County.

The village of Montgomery was deemed the winner in the 2012 Kane County Water Association Annual Water Taste Test Contest. Utilities Supervisor Jack Rosenstiel and Water Operators Dan Gier and Adam Hake entered a sample of the village’s water in the contest, and subsequently represented the village at the Kane County Water Association’s Dec. 20 meeting. Water samples were to be submitted at room temperature and treated in the normally accepted manner for the particular community.
