Toftoy Keeps Longtime Post at Coroner's Office

Toftoy, the incumbent county coroner, received 57 percent of the vote to retain his office while challenger Mike Dabney could only gather about 42 percent.

Michael Dabney has said he has no regrets on the way he ran his race for Kendall County Coroner. "I ran the campaign I wanted. Kendall County is a great place and I have thousands of more friends than I had before this campaign began,” Dabney said Tuesday night as results came in. Running as an independent, Dabney challenged 20-year incumbent Ken Toftoy for the position. Toftoy, who also serves as chairman of the Kendall County Republican Party, maintained a firm lead over Dabney as election results came in Tuesday night. He garnered 57 percent of the vote while Dabney collected 42 percent. “It was a great campaign. The voters have spoken, and I respect their decision,” Dabney said. He said he thinks the race was run in a positive manner. …

Coroner Candidates Trade Barbs at Candidate Forum

Incumbent Ken Toftoy and challenger Michael Dabney square of over budget, number of deputy coroners and other issues during Thursday's event.

Kendall County Coroner Ken Toftoy and his opponent Michael Dabney traded verbal jabs during a contentious candidate forum Thursday night hosted by WSPY FM. The candidates fielded questions from local journalists and audience members. The coroner’s segment of the forum, which also featured candidates for the Kendall County Board and Clerk of Court, had the most back-and-forth commentary of the night as the two men sparred over the budget of the coroner’s office and the number of part-time employees. Toftoy has served as coroner for 20 years. Dabney served as a deputy coroner in Kendall County for several years, and also serves as a paramedic in Oswego. Toftoy said he has maintained a stable budget for the office for the past two years and …

Thank you Mr. Dabney for providing us a choice. You have our support due to attitudes. I am ready to shake the rugs. You are capable of doing very well. Mr. Toftoy hangs out with Jake. That is enough for us. Thank you   more ›

Kendall County Coroner Explains Changes to Deputy Coroners' Pay

Todd Milliron, who supports Coroner Ken Toftoy's opponent in the November election, questions why the pay changes weren't presented to the County Board.

Kendall County Coroner Ken Toftoy did not consult county board members when he changed his deputies' pay to an hourly rate - nor was that required by state law, Toftoy said. Patch blogger Todd Milliron, who supports Toftoy's opponent in the November election, has asserted that the deputy coroner's pay should be set by the Kendall County Board. Toftoy, a longtime incumbent and chairman of the Kendall County Republican Central Committee, is facing independent Mike Dabney, an Oswego firefighter. An attorney in the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office told Toftoy he needed to change his pay policies to comply with IRS regulations, Toftoy said. Toftoy had been paying deputy coroners $24 a day when they were "on call," plus a $100 stipend …
