Local Law Enforcement Take the Polar Plunge

The 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge in Yorkville raised over $90,000 to benefit the Illinois Special Olympics.

On Sunday, about 400 people jumped into the icy waters of Loon Lake at Silver Springs State Park in Yorkville. They did so as part of the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge. Plungers had to raise at least $75 in donations in order to participate in the event. All proceeds collected go toward Illinois Special Olympic athletes. In total, the Yorkville Polar Plunge raised $92,593. The Yorkville event is one of 20 Polar Plunges held around the state from mid-February through mid-March. Individuals who raised more than $500 and the top fundraising teams from all of the Illinois plunges are entered into various prize drawings. Red Robin Hosts 'Tip A Cop' Saturday

The Montgomery and Oswego police departments will raise money for Special Olympics.

Law enforcement officers officers throughout the state are partnering with Red Robin and the Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money for Special Olympics. On Saturday, the Montgomery and Oswego police departments will be acting as assistant servers in hopes of earning extra tips for Special Olympic athletes. The Oswego Police Department will be working for tips from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Montgomery Police Department from 4 to 8 p.m. at Red Robin located at 2860 US Highway 34, Oswego. This marks the fifth year that Illinois has partnered with Red Robin for this event.
