Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies handed out 76 tickets during a 13-day period of stepped-up enforcement around the July 4 holiday. The campaign ran from June 22 to July 4. It resulted in a pair of drunken driving charges, and 62 citations for not wearing a seatbelt, among other charges. Here’s how the citations broke down: The campaign was funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Last Wednesday was Independence Day, and with that venerated holiday come a number of things. Hot dogs, parades, flags, and of course charges for illegally setting off fireworks. Here’s a roundup of those charges from the Kendall County Sheriff’s office. Vehicle scratched Someone scratched a truck with an unknown object sometime overnight in the first block of Fernwood Road, police said. Reports state the damage is estimated at $300. Money stolen Money which had been in a jewelry box was stolen from a residence at 6 p.m. in the first block of Briarcliff Road, police said.

Purse stolen A purse was stolen from a vehicle between 3 and 4 p.m. in the 100 block of Fernwood, police said. Clothing taken from car, burned Someone took several items of clothing from a vehicle, burned them, and laid them back on the vehicle at 11:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Boulder Hill Pass. The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit the Special Olympics hit Kendall County on Wednesday. Runners were escorted by local police.
On Wednesday, more than 50 runners took to the streets to participate in the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run through Kendall County, to benefit the Illinois Special Olympics. And among them were 22 representatives from local law enforcement, including the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department, and police departments from Oswego, Yorkville and Plano. The Illinois Torch Run is now in its 26th year. Runners raised more than $2.9 million in 2011, and organizers set a goal of $3 million for this year. (The 2012 fundraising total has not yet been released.) The Kendall County portion of the run began at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course in Bristol, and ended in Home Town Park in Yorkville. Rear window of a vehicle shattered Someone shattered the rear driver's side window of a vehicle between 2 and 4:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Boulder Hil Pass, police said. Vehicle vandalized Someone entered a locked vehicle sometime overnight in the first block of Circle Drive, police said. Reports state nothing was taken but weather stripping on the rear driver's side door was damaged. DUI Kathy M. Schillinger, 38, 1912 Seton Hall Drive, Naperville, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 6:49 p.m. in the 100 block of Heathgate Road, police said.

Cubs flag stolen A Cubs flag and flagpole were stolen from the front of a residence sometime overnight in the first block of Amesbury Road, according to reports. Possession of a controlled substance, speeding Lied W. Otto, 35, 56 Fernwood Road, Montgomery, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police found a small plastic bag containing a white powder substance believed to be cocaine on him during a traffic stop at 12:46 a.m. at Fernwood and Woodridge roads, according to reports. Otto was also arrested for speeding 40 or miles an hour above the speed limit, police said. Battery Tony W. Hughes, 48, 38 Afton Drive, Montgomery, was charged with battery at 8:50 p.m. at his residence, according to reports.

Kendall County Sheriff's deputies said the 18-year-old was found at home Sunday, unresponsive and not breathing. The investigation is ongoing.
Kendall County Sheriff’s police do not suspect foul play in the Sunday morning death of an 18-year-old Boulder Hill man, deputies said Monday. Police were called to a home in the 100 block of Boulder Hill Pass at about 9:53 a.m. and found the teen unresponsive, police said. The man’s mother had found him lying in bed, not breathing, police said. Paramedics pronounced the man dead, police said. The investigation is ongoing, according to police. Officials from the Kendall County Coroner’s office could not immediately be reached for comment

Stolen cell A cell phone was stolen from a home at 2 a.m. in the first block of Surrey Road. Keyed up A vehicle was keyed overnight in the first block of Boulder Hill Pass. Reports state the damage is about $300.
