Under the category of "something you don't see every day," Democratic coroner candidate Tao Martinez supports Republican Chris Lauzen for Kane County Board chairman.
Under the news category of "man bites dog," the Democratic candidate for Kane County coroner on Monday sent a letter announcing his endorsement of the GOP's Chris Lauzen for County Board chairman. According to the letter to the editor submitted by Tao Martinez to local media, Martinez had announced his public support and endorsement of Lauzen on Oct. 18 during the Western Township Republican organization meeting in Blackberry Township. "I have been saying from the beginning of the campaign that there is not a Republican way, or Democrat way, to run the coroner's office. Just the professional way," Martinez' letter says. "I see Sen. Lauzen as a man with a great background to be chairman of the County Board. He has 20 years of legislative …

Three more batches (or pools) of mosquitoes collected this week have tested positive for West Nile Virus, the Kane County Health Department reported Friday, July 13. The mosquito batches were collected in Kane County Health Department traps in Aurora, Montgomery and Carpentersville. This brings the total to five positive batches this year, the second in from Carpentersville. These positive mosquito batches usually are the first indicators of West Nile activity. "With this year’s hot, dry weather, these results come as no surprise," the Kane County Health Department press release said. "We usually see our first evidence of West Nile beginning in July or August. And although it has been extraordinarily dry, the few intermittent showers we’ve…

The new northbound lanes of Orchard Road through Montgomery will be paved over the next two weeks, according to the Kane County Division of Transportation.
It may not be a bad idea to avoid Orchard Road through Montgomery for the next couple of weeks. Workers from Plote Construction will be paving the new northbound lanes of the widened road between Jericho Road and Route 30 over the next two weeks, according to the Kane County Division of Transportation. Two of the lanes will be paved the week of June 11, with the third during the week of June 18. According to KDOT, there could be some traffic delays on a few of the cross streets – specifically, Countryside Boulevard, Aucutt Road, Knell Road and Rochester Drive – as the pavers make their way across. It will take a few minutes for paving equipment to cross the intersections, KDOT officials said. If you arrive at the intersection just as the …

Paul Woodard, charged with aggravated drunken driving after fleeing from Montgomery police last June, was sentenced on Wednesday. He has been charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license 25 times.
A Chicago man was sentenced to seven years in prison for driving drunk in Montgomery, Kane County State’s Attorney Joseph McMahon said. Paul Woodard, 35, most recently of the 8100 block of South Vincennes Avenue in Chicago, pleaded guilty on Feb. 23 to one count of aggravated DUI, a Class 2 felony, and one count of aggravated driving while license revoked, a Class 4 felony, McMahon said. Kane County Judge Marmarie Kostelny accepted the plea, and handed down the sentence on Wednesday. On June 2, 2011, Montgomery police attempted to pull over Woodard for speeding in the 1300 block of Douglas Road. Woodard decided to give chase, police said, and led them down several side streets, finally stopping in a driveway in the 1200 block of Fourth …

The last day of early voting was Thursday, and numbers went up in one county and down in another, as compared with the 2008 presidential primary.
The early voting totals for the March 20 primary are in, and while totals are up in Kendall County over the last presidential primary election, they’re down in Kane. Early voting began in Kane and Kendall counties on Feb. 27, and wrapped up on March 15. According to Stan Bond, a Montgomery trustee and an applications analyst for the Kane County Clerk’s office, 7,017 voters headed out to the polls early county-wide – a much higher total than last year’s 4,550, but lower than the 9,193 who voted early in 2008, the last time a presidential primary was held. (That total does not include the city of Aurora, which has its own election commission.) Last April’s was an odd-numbered-year consolidated election, focusing on local races, and those …

The Chicago Tribune has named its favorites for Kane County races. GOP: Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns over state Sen. Chris Lauzen "(Burns') extensive experience in municipal and county government merits endorsement over state Sen. Chris Lauzen, who has had something of a quixotic career in the Senate." He is endorsed over former St. Charles Mayor Sue Klinkhamer." GOP: Elgin physician Robert Tiballi over DuPage County Sheriff's Sgt. Big surprise? Not. Apparently Tao Martinez, like the rest of the Kane County Democrats, seems to believe that Sue Klinkhamer is some kind of Republican plant controlled by the outgoing Kane County administration. And they appear to be so enraged by the alleged subterfuge and manipulations that they're willing to endorse conservative Republican candidate Chris Lauzen instead of faux-Democrat Sue …   more ›
