A Kane County judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by a former County Board chairman candidate that accused Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay of dishing out hefty raises to high-level employees. The suit, filed by Jim MacRunnels, said McConnaughay didn't follow proper procedures in administering county personnel and salaries. The suit was filed in 2010, then dismissed, and was dismissed again Tuesday in appellate court, according to an article in the Daily Herald. A McConnaughay press release referred to the lawsuit as "politically motivated" and "frivilous." “While it is gratifying that the court has again found these allegations meritless, it is unfortunate that the county had to incur the cost of defending itself from what …

After the Kane County Board Finance Committee Chairman proposed a 2013 budget that would raise the property tax levy in spite of declining real estate values, Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay countered with her own budget proposal that freezes the levy on existing property for the second consecutive year. "I could not stand by and watch an irresponsible budget increase the burden on the taxpayers," said McConnaughay, Republican candidate for state senate in the 33rd District. "When property owners are seeing values go down it is unconscionable to raise their taxes, especially without any coherent reason why." County Finance Committee Chairman Jim Mitchell wrote a budget that increased the county tax levy in spite of a 6.8 percent decrease…

To the Editor: Last weekend, my wife and I received a political advertisement from Chris Lauzen in the mail. It was a handsome political piece which contains, among other things, a color photograph of Sen. Lauzen and his family. Two of the senator’s sons are shown in their full dress uniforms, one from the Marine Corps and one from the United States Navy. Sen. Lauzen is justiflably proud of his two sons in the military. However, Department of Defense directive No. l344.10, effective Feb. 19, 2008, prohibits members of the armed forces on active duty from “participating in any political activity while in military uniform.” (DoDD 1344.10 E32) Political activity is defined as “activity supporting or relating to candidates representing, or …

Mr. Loebel you raise a very valid point. Eventually, they will bankrupt us all with their trickery mathemical "tax to the max" scams. The fact that they have access to our funds like this and can attach any configuration system to it is a prime example of tyranny. I would like to know how they derived at this system along with the school district tax levy(the sky is the limit, spend, spend, spend…   more ›
