Francisco Salazar, the driver in the shooting that killed Jason Ventura of Aurora in 2009, was sentenced Wednesday afternoon.
An Aurora man was given a 55-year sentence for his role in a drive-by shooting in 2009, according to a release by Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis. Francisco Salazar, 23, of Aurora, was found guilty for the murder of Jason Ventura and the attempted murder of Eduardo Gaytan and Jorge Ruiz. Salazar was convicted of one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in May 2012 after a four-day jury trial. The drive-by shooting occurred in the early morning of Dec. 20, 2009, on Long Beach Road near Douglas Road, police said. An Aurora man was found guilty of murder on Thursday for his role in a 2009 drive-by shooting in Oswego, Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis said. A jury convicted Francisco Salazar, 22, of Aurora, of one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder after deliberating for less than three hours, Weis said. The drive-by shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 20, 2009, on Long Beach Road near Douglas Road, police said. Zachary Reyes was found guilty in January for the drive-by shooting of Jason Ventura.
Zachary Reyes of Aurora was sentenced last week to 97 years in prison for the 2009 murder of Jason Ventura and the attempted murder of Eduardo Gaytan and Jorge Ruiz. Reyes who was 16 at the time of the crime, was convicted in January on one count of first degree murder and another count of attempted first-degree murder. The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 20, 2009, as the car Reyes was in drove east down Long Beach Road alongside another car.
