Montgomery Seeks New Clerk, Plan Commissioner

Village President Marilyn Michelini is searching for a new village clerk and a new member of the Plan Commission. If you're interested, you have until next Friday to apply.

For the second time in a year, Montgomery Village President Marilyn Michelini is looking for a new village clerk, and a new member of the Plan Commission. Michelini announced at Monday’s Village Board meeting that Carla Cooper, who served as clerk since April, had stepped down. Cooper cited increased time demands at her full-time job as the reason for her resignation. Cooper was chosen to fill the remainder of Barbara Argo’s term when Argo resigned last February. "I've enjoyed serving the village of Montgomery," Cooper said. So the search is on for a new clerk, whose job includes attending all village meetings, taking notes and transcribing them into minutes. Longest-Serving Plan Commission Member Hanging Up His Hat

Clarence Bark is retiring from the Montgomery Plan Commission after more than three decades on the job.

Montgomery resident Clarence Bark didn’t initially seek out a seat on the village’s Plan Commission. “It wasn’t my idea,” he said. “In 1979 the mayor came to me and asked if I’d serve so I said, ‘Well, I’ll help you out.’ I thought it would just be a short-term thing.” Now 30 years later, Bark, who holds the record as longest-serving member of the plan commission, is hanging up his hat. “Like anything, you come to a point where you decide you have to make a change,” he said. “Like I told the mayor when I turned in my resignation, ‘It’s time for some younger people to come in.’ I see those people in Congress that stay and stay and I wish they’d put term limitations because younger ideas don’t get in.” In his tenure, Bark enjoyed watching …
