Football: Oswego East Takes Down Romeoville, Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive

Oswego East 37, Romeoville 12: Three first-half touchdown passes by quarterback Sean Kennedy enabled the Wolves to remain in the hunt for their first playoff berth.

In the first quarter, the Wolves' turnovers persisted with an interception by Sean Kennedy and a fumble. This time, however, the Oswego East defense was able to minimize the damage in a 37-12 victory over Romeoville on Friday night. The Wolves limited the Spartans to six points off of turnovers and pulled away to win their homecoming game. The offense took care of the rest. A terrific 48-yard punt return by Branden Lowe set up an 18-yard screen pass to running back Chris Cooper. And that put the Wolves in front 8-0. After Romeoville scored on a 5-yard run by Miguel Ford to cut the lead to 8-6, the …

Paralympian Surprised with Homecoming by Friends and Family

Joe Berenyi won three medals in the 2012 London Paralympics.

Oswego Paralympian Joe Bereyni arrived back in Oswego Monday afternoon to a surprise homecoming in the Oswego Home Depot parking lot. The organizer of the event, Village President Brian LeClerccq, wanted none of the credit. “All of the credit goes to the athlete,” he said. Berenyi competed in five cycling events in the 2012 Paralympics in London and took home a gold, silver and bronze medal. Family and friends turned out to welcome and congratulate Berenyi on his success. “We are so proud of him,” said his uncle, Dick Hansford of Yorkville. “He’s a cool kid,” said aunt Ann Barnes. “And we can call him a kid,” she laughed. Berenyi, arriving with his brother-in-law Eric Prater from the airport, was all smiles, despite not having slept in …

Panthers Homecoming Roars To Life This Week

Homecoming activities include Mr. Oswego contest, parade, football games, and a dance.

Homecoming week, “one of “the most exciting times” at Oswego High School, will be celebrated by students and staff alike this week. “OHS is a great school to be at and homecoming is one opportunity to show that,” said Tara Jerbi, a student council sponsor at OHS. “Whether it is dressing up for spirit days or walking in the parade, students and staff show their pride for our school. The amount of student involvement has grown each year and we expect this year to be even bigger.” Activities kickoff Monday with the annual Mr. Oswego Contest at 6:30 p.m. in the OHS gym. There is a $3 entry fee. “Last year, Ben Wooley won Mr. Oswego with his one-man-band performance,” Jerbi said. This year, contestants include Ryan Splon, Josh Sledge, Tommy …
