Some changes are already happening for the upcoming April election.
Written by Natalie Stevens There has been a change in the upcoming Oswego 308 Board of Education election since ballots were filed last December. Candidate Jill Ko recently withdrew her name from the ballot. “This was an incredibly difficult decision for myself and my family. While I would like to serve and have done so in various capacities in the district for the past 14 years, I was not able to make the important 4-year time commitment to serve as a Board of Education member, due to recent changes in my commitments,” said Ko in a statement. “I most definitely intend to stay involved and support the academics in the District through my work on the District Teaching & Learning Committee, Parents And Community for Excellence parent …

Incumbent Ken Toftoy and challenger Michael Dabney square of over budget, number of deputy coroners and other issues during Thursday's event.
Kendall County Coroner Ken Toftoy and his opponent Michael Dabney traded verbal jabs during a contentious candidate forum Thursday night hosted by WSPY FM. The candidates fielded questions from local journalists and audience members. The coroner’s segment of the forum, which also featured candidates for the Kendall County Board and Clerk of Court, had the most back-and-forth commentary of the night as the two men sparred over the budget of the coroner’s office and the number of part-time employees. Toftoy has served as coroner for 20 years. Dabney served as a deputy coroner in Kendall County for several years, and also serves as a paramedic in Oswego. Toftoy said he has maintained a stable budget for the office for the past two years and …

Here's how you voted in the fifth of our weekly polls leading up to the March 20 primary election.
Here we are in Week Five of our presidential poll, and for the first time, a Republican has taken the gold. We got about half as many votes this week as we did last week—only 52 people took part in our incredibly, massively unscientific poll. But 18 of them voted for Ron Paul, putting him in first place, and significantly ahead of Rick Santorum, his closest Republican challenger, with 12 votes. Barack Obama came in second, with 15 votes. As has happened with every one of these weekly polls, we got far more Republican votes than Democrat ones, and if that continues as the primary shapes up and candidates drop out, it will be interesting. Mitt Romney took fourth place with seven votes, and not a single participant voted for Newt Gingrich, …

There was some friction between the three Democratic candidates in the 11th Congressional District at a forum in Aurora on Thursday night.
For the second time this week, the three Democratic candidates running in the new 11th Congressional District shared a stage Thursday night, this time in Aurora. And this time, some sparks flew. The forum was sponsored by the Aurora Township Democrats, and held at the headquarters of Painters District Council #30 on the northwest side of Aurora. The candidates answered questions from the audience, and spent much of their time outlining the differences between them. Bill Foster, the Naperville scientist who represented the 14th Congressional District from 2008 to 2010, described himself as a “thoughtful moderate” with an eye on “the long-term best interests of the country.” Jim Hickey, the president of the Orland Fire District (the largest …

The three Democrats vying for the 84th State House District seat met on Monday in Naperville to discuss the issues. The winner of the March 20 primary will face Republican Pat Fee in November.
Job creation and pension reform were the hot topics Monday night as the three Democrats vying for the 84th State House District seat debated the issues in Naperville. The forum was sponsored by the Naperville Township Democrats, and the roughly 80 people in attendance at the Naperville Municipal Center were given the chance to meet the three candidates who will face off in the March 20 primary: Alex Arroyo, former head of the Aurora Township Democrats; Carole Cheney, attorney and vice president of the Naperville Township Democrats; and Stephanie Kifowit, 3rd Ward alderman in the city of Aurora. The winner of this three-way race will battle Aurora Republican Pat Fee for the seat. The newly-drawn 84th District has no incumbent, and includes …
