Watch: Baird Makes Kendall Sheriff's Candidacy Official

Lifelong Oswego resident says it's time for a new leadership.

Oswego Police Chief Dwight Baird made official Saturday what’s long been rumored. The lifelong Oswego resident is running for Kendall County Sheriff. Baird made the announcement on the steps of the Kendall County Courthouse to a crowd of about 100 supporters, including Oswego Village President Brian LeClercq, Village Trustee Judy Sollinger and Kendall County Coroner Ken Toftoy. Oswego Police Officer Facing DUI Charge Resigns

John P. Wolfinbarger is off the force effective immediately, according to a release from Oswego police.

An Oswego Police officer involved in a standoff with Channahon police last week has resigned from the department, according to a release from the Oswego police department.  Eleven-year department veteran John P. Wolfinbarger, of Yorkville, was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and DUI alcohol March 13 after Channahon police responded to a call from patrons at Chicago Pizza & Catering Company that a man with a gun was inside arguing with someone. While witnesses were speaking to police on the scene, they saw Wolfinbarger trying to leave in a black pick-up truck. Oswego Police Chief: Department Will Move Quickly in Internal Investigation

Dwight Baird said he is in the process of collecting police reports from a standoff incident involving officer John Wolfinbarger in Channahon Wednesday afternoon.

Oswego Police Chief Dwight Baird said Thursday he will move quickly to conduct the department’s internal investigation into one of his officers allegedly involved in a standoff in Channhahon Wednesday night. Barid, who was called to the scene of the police standoff with 11-year department veteran John. P. Wolfinbarger of Yorkville, said it is essential to uphold the integrity of the department and the village in the investigaiton. “Every citizen is entitled to due process pending an investigation. For those of you wanting to make this something political, don't. Baird, if he is a good leader, will do what is called for by department policy. Nothing more, nothing less. He has nothing to gain politically here, as people draw simularties to the incident with the County Deputy who drew his weapon in a crowded grocery store, and this unfortunate incident. District 308 Confronts Cyber-Bullying Head On at Information Night

About 150 residents attend forum on latest forms of youth harassment.

If you don't know what your kids are up to online, you could be making a fatal mistake. That was part of the tough message delivered Monday at a Oswego Communinty Unit District 308 forum on cyber-bullying, a problem that continues to grow with every latest technological innovation. Speakers in Oswego East High School's Performing Arts Center included Oswego Police Chief Dwight Baird, Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis, District 308 Supt. Dan O'Donnell, director of student services Marti Neahring and most powerfully Jason Bastin, OEHS' police school recourse officer.
