Oldtime Baseball Played by Oldtime Rules Set for Saturday
Deep River Grinders and Chicago Salmon will battle it out according to regulations players followed in 1858.
Imagine catching a line drive barehanded, without the protection of a baseball mitt. How about scooting around the basepaths and sliding hard into second base all while playing barefoot? The sluggers taking the field Saturday at Prairie Point Community Park in Oswego will doing just that. Local historic preservation group History without Boundaries is sponsoring a free old-time baseball event Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at the park, 313 E. Washington St. During the event, the Deep River Grinders of Hammond, Ind., and the Chicago Salmon will play following the rules of baseball that were in place in 1858.
