Counterpoint: 'Wanderlust' a Waste of Time

Katherine says Wanderlust falls flat.

Katherine Hunnicutt of Woodridge was chosen to write a review with Dave Wilson last week. Despite the considerable charms of Paul Rudd and enough interesting questions for three movies, Wanderlust never worked up more than a passing desire in this reviewer. In fact, the overabundance of shallowly developed ideas is probably what contributed heavily to its tendency to fall flat. The beginning was catchy enough, with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston playing a couple of professionals in Manhattan whose dream of owning property in the Big Apple is finally fulfilled, and then quickly dashed on the rocks of unemployment. Homeless and jobless, the pair decamps to stay with Rudd's obnoxious brother in Atlanta. The long car ride is filled with …

New Feature ‘Local Favorites’ is Coming

Reader reviews will determine Montgomery residents' most-loved local businesses.

We've all got our favorites. Whether it's the go-to pizza place or the trusted mechanic we've been going to for years to the trusted family dentist, there are businesses we know we can count on. And because Montgomery Patch has an extensive business directory, we want to tap into that sentiment. Starting Monday, we’ll launch “Local Favorites,” an interactive feature that lets you support your favorite local merchants and services. Each week will feature a different topic, from which local veterinarian you rely on to care for your four-legged family member to who makes the best burger to the best spot to grab an after-work drink. Readers will be asked to click on their favorite's business directory link and leave a review explaining why …

About Town

Introducing Our 'I Heart Montgomery' Contest

Why do you love Montgomery? Answer for a chance to win a gift certificate to a local restaurant, and to be interviewed for an upcoming Patch column.

We want to know why you heart Montgomery. We here at Patch have a million reasons. Montgomery is a vibrant community that is sometimes forgotten between Aurora and Oswego, but has so much to offer. The picturesque Virgil L. Gilman trail is a great way to get to know Montgomery as it takes trail users along its scenic waterways and through its quiet downtown. A new village hall is preparing for future growth that residential and commercial developments are bringing to the old factory town. Orchard Road and Route 30 offers convenient shopping close to many new housing developments. Montgomery Road continues to be a gateway through town from the strip malls and indoor skating fun at Hill Avenue to Anderson Farm Stand and Montgomery Market at …

Like many communities our Village has many things to offer from the Park Services, Trials and Commerce on all sides of the Village. Being active in the community I have seen thoughtful growth in Housing and Businesses where by the Village has controlled the growth as to stay in step with its needs. Many others have not stayed in tune to these variables and as a business owner it was very …   more ›

Listening In

Hey Music Fans: We Want to Know What's On Your iPod

Kicking off our new weekly contest, in which Patch asks you what you've been listening to.

Welcome to Listening In, the second of our weekly contests. Anyone who knows me will tell you I love music. It makes my world go round. Whenever I meet someone, the first question I want to ask is, “What music are you into?” Listening In is a way for me to do that. Essentially, I want to know what’s on your iPod, and I’m willing to pay (in fantastic Patch swag, and other prizes) to find out. Here’s how it works: 1.     If you’re interested in playing this game, send me your name, hometown and email address. My address is andre.salles@patch.com. 2.     Once a week, I will pull an email address out of a hat. (Seriously. I’m going to use a real hat.) 3.     I will email the lucky winner mid-week and ask him or her to grab his or her iPod, hit…
