Rich Zielke had been working as the interim executive director since April.
The Oswegoland Park District Board unanimously approved Monday afternoon the hiring of former deputy director Rich Zielke as the district’s new executive director. Zielke had been acting as interim executive director since the departure of Bill McAdam in April. McAdam took the position of executive director at the Downers Grove Park District. “It’s an honor to be considered for and appointed to this position,” Zielke said at a special meeting called Monday for the sole purpose of promoting him. “I look forward to continuing working with the tremendous staff and leading the district on its path that (the board) has set for us.” Zielke is the fourth executive director in the history of the park district, which was founded in 1950. He has …

Deputy director stepping in to fill spot left open by Bill McAdam
Richard Zielke, deputy director of the Oswegoland Park District, will take over as interim executive director after the departure of Bill McAdam, according to a memo sent by McAdam this week to Park Board commissioners. Bob Mattingly, Park Board president, said Zielke will stay in the position indefinitely, and there are currently no plans to begin a search to find a permanent replacement for McAdam, who is leaving to take over the top spot at the Downers Grove Park District. “We feel real good with how Rich has done as deputy director,” Mattingly said. “(The commissioners) met in executive session and unanimously came to the conclusion Rich was a great candidate.” An evaluation of Zielke’s job shift will be performed quarterly, and if the…

The executive director is the second high-ranking official to resign in as many months.
Bill McAdam, the longtime executive director of the Oswegoland Park District, has resigned and will take the same position at the Downers Grove Park District. According to an email McAdam sent to staff and Park Board Commissioners Tuesday morning, his last day with the District will be May 4. McAdam began with the district in 2003. “While I am excited to take on a new challenge, it is difficult to leave a district that has at its core one of the finest most dedicated staff in the industry,” McAdam wrote in his email. McAdam’s resignation follows closely that of Margaret Gienger, the former superintendent of marketing, who last month accepted a position with the Park District of Highland Park. “It’s a sad day for the park district, but a …

The Oswegoland Park District will borrow up to $4 million to replace the pool and update the facility, both of which were built in the 1960s.
By the summer of 2013, the Winrock Park pool in Montgomery will be a completely new place. The Oswegoland Park District board this week authorized borrowing up to $4 million to completely renovate the facility, off of Fernwood Road south of Route 30. The building, outdoor pool and parking lot were constructed in the 1960s, according to Bill McAdam, executive director of the park district. McAdam said the aluminum pool is showing signs of age, and is beginning to buckle in some places. The district will remove and replace the pool, as well as replacing the parking lot and renovating the building, he said. The project will bring the facility up to code, and make it more accessible to those with disabilities. The new pool, McAdam said, would …

Runoff from phosphorus fertilizers can cause the growth of harmful algae in the area’s stormwater detention systems.
While winter's chill has driven thoughts of spring from most people's minds, some in Oswego are already thinking about warmer times ahead. And when it comes to future lawn and garden maintenance, Oswegoland Park District Executive Director Bill McAdam hopes residents will think twice before using fertilizers containing phosphorus. McAdam said runoff from phosphorus fertilizers can cause the growth of harmful algae in the area’s stormwater detention systems. “The water turns that icky green color which then in turn sucks more oxygen out of the water and has a detrimental effect on the fish,” he said. Ridding a pond of the algae can also be costly to property owners, includng public bodies. Already, McAdam said several states have enacted …
