Winrock Pool Construction Has Started

The pool is expected to open by this time next year.

Now that the Oswegoland Park District Aquatic Center is open and eager swimmers and sunbathers are raring to go, you might have remembered there's another pool nearby.

Winrock Pool, 21 Winrock Road, in Boulder Hill was constructed in the mid-1960s and was showing signs of its age. It received approval in May 2012 for renovation and now executive director of the Park District Rick Zielke said construction has begun.

“Winrock Pool was slated for total demolition and construction,” said Zielke.

Construction is happening now and Zielke said the pool is expected to be open by this time next year. However, the pool will mainly be open for swim lessons and the Otters swim team.

“Our swimming lessons are … always bursting at the seams,” said Zielke, and the summer swim team has more than 200 individuals participating.

Opening Winrock will help to relieve the congestion at the aquatic center.

“By this time next year we’ll be ready to go and have two pools open,” said Zielke. “And right now the aquatic park will be happy to serve all swimming needs.”

The Winrock Pool renovation includes a new six-lane pool with zero-depth entry, pool deck, and fencing. The exterior of the building will be updated, and the interior will be remodeled for ADA accessibility.
