Talent Show Added to 2012 Montgomery Fest

Organizers looking for all kinds of acts.

At Montgomery Fest 2012, local talent has the opportunity to entertain the community in the inaugural Montgomery’s Got Talent.

“This is a talent show, not a contest,” said Ruth Malloy, Deputy Clerk. “We thought that would best suit Montgomery Fest and we realize there’s a lot of talent out there, and this gives people their moment to shine.”

Any type of talent is welcomed: dancers, jugglers, ventriloquists, singers, magicians, comedians, etc.

Malloy said the talent show was introduced to try something new and to increase community involvement.

The planning committee is excited about this new addition and hope people have a good time with it and bring their friends to cheer on their performance, Malloy said.

Auditions are at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Village Hall. A panel will choose 10-12 talents to perform at Montgomery Fest on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Malloy encourages everyone “to give it a try” and said all are welcome, not just Montgomery residents.

Another new addition to this year’s Montgomery Fest is a bags tournament on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Participants can register beforehand or the morning of the event. The cost is $15 per person or $30 per team with a cash prize payout.

Other special events include the popular diaper dash and an ice-cream eating contest, Malloy said.

There are already four bands scheduled to perform, including: Red Woody and Brothers of Absolution.

Montgomery Fest occurs annually the second weekend in August along the banks of the Fox River. Its goal is to encourage neighbors and friends “to enjoy a weekend of old-fashioned family fun.”

A detailed schedule of events will be posted on the Village website and mailed to all residents with the August water bills.
