Look Out for a Blue Moon Friday

Grab a Blue Moon beer, put on that old Elvis 45 and spend some time with the sky this Friday. If you miss this blue moon, you'll have to wait until 2015 to capture the moment again.

"Blue moon. You saw me standing alone. Without a dream in my heart. Without a love of my own."

So sang Elvis Presley (see the video). The song was actually written by the great songwriting duo Rogers and Hart in 1934. It's been covered by many, but no one has been able to croon it as well as Elvis.

But don't expect to see the color blue. A blue moon refers to the rarity of multiple full moons in a month or season. That's where the saying, once in a blue moon comes from.

Friday's full moon will be the second in August. The first took place on Aug. 1.

Two blue moons in a month typically occur every 2.7 years, according to the Huffington Post

The last blue moon was on Dec. 31, 2009.

Best time to see the Blue Moon:

The moon will be at its fullest at 8:58 a.m. CST, according to the Farmers' Almanac
