Kifowit Hosts Women Veterans’ Fair to Connect Veterans With Resources

AURORA, Ill. – In order to bring services and valuable information to all veterans in the area, with an emphasis on women veterans, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, announced that she is hosting a Women Veterans’ Fair on Thursday, July 18 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Waubonsee Community College’s Aurora campus, multi-purpose room, located at 18 S. River St. in downtown Aurora. The event will feature speakers and informational booths, which are open to all veterans and their families and is being co-hosted by state Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia, and state Sen. Linda Holmes.

“As a veteran of the United States Marines, I understand the unique challenges that veterans face and those unique challenges of women veterans, in these tough economic times,” Kifowit said. “It is my duty to ensure that all veterans are able to access the services and assistance they deserve.   This fair will directly connect them with resources and care providers. I hope all veterans and their families stop by to find out more about the community support for veterans available right here in our area.”

This free event is open to the public and while the primary focus is on women veterans, all area veterans and families of veterans or current members of the military are encouraged to attend. This event will discuss business, educational, and networking opportunities primarily for women veterans and their families. Speakers for the event include representatives from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.  Informational booths with knowledgeable staff will be provided by over 15 organizations, including the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Illinois Dept. of Employment Security, Hines VA Hospital, AllenForce, the Veterans’ Assistance Commissions of DuPage and Kane counties, the Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 and Waubonsee Community College.
