Montgomery will host a sporting event August 11 many have not been given the great opportunity to witness before. It is a game in which the players will aim to shoot basketballs into one of three designated hoops. Unlike any other sport the competitors are none other than robots created and operated by students. These students with the assistance of professional engineers that act up as their mentors were given an absolute deadline of six weeks to design, construct and program their robot. At the end of the anticipated sixth week they sent off their robot to a regional competition and tested their robot against many other formidable opponents. The Oswego FIRST Robotics Team just finished an exciting season composed of success, immeasurable gratification, as well as a sense of fulfillment. The team was able to make it all the way to the semifinal round at regional competition this year. This all came about because a man was inspired to lead future generations into a culture revolved around science and technology. Dean Kamen founded FIRST (For Inspirational Recognition of Science and Technology) in hopes of bestowing his passion for these subjects among students forever. The organization he created is devoted to influence the next generation by stimulating their understanding, practice and appreciation for science and technology. Join the community as a 2v2 competition is hosted on August 11 by Oswego FIRST Robotics and watch as teams from Illinois Math & Science Academy, Batavia, Naperville North, Winnebago, Lake Zurich, and Springfield compete and demonstrate their complex robots in action.
