Video: Father-Son Winter Olympics at Boulder Hill Elementary

About 75 kids and their fathers turned up for the first-ever winter games at Boulder Hill Elementary, and competed in five events.

Tuesday, Jan. 31 was a momentous occasion at : the first ever Father-Son Winter Olympics.

About 75 students and their fathers came to the Boulder Hill gym ready to play. They competed in five events: ice skating (using paper plates on the gym floor), bobsled, a biathlon and luge (using wheeled scooters), and a giant ski jump, during which kids jumped off of mats, measuring distance.

According to Principal Jeff Schafermeyer, the father-son games were originally held in May, but the school couldn’t get enough volunteer assistance to make them work. Tuesday’s games, however, went off well, Schafermeyer said, and Boulder Hill will likely continue to hold them in January

At the end of the games, every participant received a medal. As the sign hanging in the gym says, “If you had fun, you won.”
