Oswego Schools Hire Math Implementation Coach to Roll Out New Curriculum

Community Unit School District 308 hired Fox Chase Elementary School teacher Amber Denbo as the new Math Implementation Coach for the district.

The position is grant-funded, and will provide early childhood through fifth grade teachers more support as the newly revised curriculum is unrolled in the 2014-15 school year. Denbo was one of 60 teachers who participated in the analyzation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, and using those standards to create the new District 308 Mathematics Curriculum Guides, District 308 Mathematics Common Summative Assessments, and District 308 Elementary resource adoption, My Math.

“After spending the year helping to write our new math curriculum, I am thrilled to have the honor of guiding and supporting teachers while we put the new curriculum into action next year,” she said. 

Denbo received her bachelor’s of science degree in biology and environmental education from the University of Wisconsin in Steven’s Point, and her master of science degree in early childhood education from Northern Illinois University. She began her teaching career while working at a children’s museum, an aquarium and various nature centers and zoos, all while earning her undergraduate degree. 

After graduating, she taught preschool, worked as a Family Teacher at Mooseheart, and was an assistant director and director with KinderCare Learning Centers. After earning her master’s degree in education, District 308 hired her to teach first grade at Fox Chase Elementary School, where she has taught for the last ten years. 

Denbo was an active faculty member at Fox Chase, participating in the strategic planning committee, building leadership team, school improvement committee in technology and math, and district math curriculum team. She also experienced working with multiple grade levels as a tutor with Huntington Learning Centers, including ACT test preparation in mathematics.
