Oswego School Board OKs Additional Buses; New Website to Launch Next Fall

New website will come with a one-time cost of $37,418.

The Oswego Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education at its April 14 meeting approved leasing 17 school buses, starting in the 2014-15 school year.

The move will more than double the size of District 308's fleet by adding 11 buses. Communications Director Brian Graves said the deal with Midwest Transit Equipment and Sovereign Leasing includes six replacement buses.

Director of Transportation Derrick Berlin said the additional buses will improve the efficiency of the district's transportation services.

"They will help us immensely in meeting the transportation needs of a growing district," Berlin said.

The buses are part of a five-year agreement with Midwest Transit Equipment lasting through 2019. According to Graves, the lease represents a $29,760 decrease from the projected five-year plan over the life of the lease.

New website

The school board also approved the launch of a new District 308 website next fall.

Pennsylvania-based Schoolwires will design and launch the site next August, with a one-time startup cost of $37,418. Graves said that breaks down to $2.17 per student.

“We believe that Schoolwires is the best vendor to take the District into the future,” said Graves. “The firm offers an aesthetically pleasing design, as well as a system that will be easy to understand. We want a system that teachers, students, staff and parents will be able to easily utilize."

Nearby Plainfield School District 202 also recently unveiled a new website as part of efforts to improve communication as well as online security. District 202's new site, part of a $99,504 deal with site host Blackboard, will eventually allow each teacher to create his or her own personal page.
