Oswego ELL Students to Return to Home Schools by 2015

Two programs for English learners scheduled to be offered at students' home schools by next year.

English Language Learners (ELL) being bused to Oswego School District 308 schools far from home are likely to be transferred back to their home schools by 2015, according to a report from the Aurora Beacon.

The change is part of district plans created in response to a 2011 state audit, which found the district’s program for English-language learners was out of compliance with state regulations in 19 areas, the Beacon reported.

But since then, the district has worked to fix problems in 16 areas, and is continuing to make efforts to correct the remaining three.

Four elementary schools, one junior high school and one high school are designated for students in the transitional program of instruction, while Oswego's early learning center and three elementary schools house the district’s transitional bilingual education programs.

Under the district's plan, both programs would be offered at students' home schools by 2015.
