Dist. 129 School Board Candidates Forum Set For March 13

Each candidate will have an opportunity to make an introduction and a brief personal statement and answer questions.

A District 129 School Board candidates forum will be held at 7 p.m., March 13, in the West Aurora High School cafeteria, Door 22, at 1201 W. New York St., Aurora.

There are three seats open in the April 9 school board election. Candidates are Mark Bradford, George R. Dyche, Valerie Brown Dykstra, Neal Ormond, William Passalaqua, Robert Patterson and Jonathan Wood.

The Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council (SCAC), made up of parents from the district's 17 schools, will host the event. Each candidate will have an opportunity to make an introduction and a brief personal statement and answer questions. The SCAC will collect questions from the audience during the forum and present them to the candidates.

The SCAC involves parents in facilitating a public understanding of the district's comprehensive plan known as Vision 129. The group’s goals include

  • Providing public participation in the West Aurora school system
  • Providing a forum for discussion and decision-making between the public and district staff
  • Establishing effective two-way communication between the district office and individual schools.
