Hello Montgomery!

Local author takes you on her journey to self-publish her books.

There's a new blogger in town and it just so happens to be me.

My name is Samantha, and I'm a self-published author. While I have been writing all of my life, I just started working towards getting my books published about five years ago. Just like most aspiring authors, I've sent my fair share of query letters to agents and publishers. Your query letters are one page long. They normally don't read your book, so you are judged by this one letter. (You can expect your rejection letter in one to three weeks!)

One day I decided I didn't care if some agent in New York liked my books. I like my books, and everyone I've let read them has enjoyed the stories. I became tired of waiting around.

My blogs are going to take you right along with me as I push forward to find my own niche in the scary world of publishing books. Most people think that you sit down, write a book and an agent or publishing house scoops you right up and you're instantly famous. Nope!

First thing I have to say... you can't do it alone. When you take the publishing into your own hands, you'll find that you need an editor, illustrator, marketing person as well as someone who can do advertising. That was my first wake-up call.
