Photo Gallery: Winners of the Montgomery Pride Photo Contest

Village officials asked for interesting photos to adorn the new website, scheduled to go live in December. You delivered. Here are the nine winners and three honorable mentions, selected from more than 130 entries.

What does Montgomery look like to you?

This was the question village officials asked you in May, as part of their efforts to redesign the village website. They called it the “Montgomery Pride” photo contest, and the prize, they said, would be your photo on the new site.

Officials accepted photos in three categories—architecture, environment, and people and activities—through June 17. The only requirement for the photos was that they had to be taken in Montgomery.

The contest drew more than 130 entries, with the environment category bringing in the most, and the list was whittled down to nine winners and three honorable mentions by the website design team, made up of one participant from each of the village’s departments. Winners were chosen on July 7, and announced Monday at the Village Board meeting.

Here’s a little bit about each one:

Architecture

First Place: Nick Heinz, of Nick Heinz Photography, who shot a closeup of the entryway of Village Hall.

Second Place: Trustee Stan Bond, who took a portrait of the Mill Street Bridge.

Third Place: Jeanne Young, for a picture of her neighbor’s backyard swimming pool.

Honorable Mention: Mary Jo Place, for a shot of the Mill Street Bridge filtered through grass and trees.

Environment

First Place: Zach Dillman, of Zach Dillman Photography, who framed a unique shot of the Fox River Dam at sunset.

Second Place: Jeanne Young, for her picture of a summer sunset over the river.

Third Place: Wendy Greenslade of Wendy Lynn Photography, for her well-timed shot of a crane flying over the Fox River.

Honorable Mentions: Julie Kline, for her scenic prairie photo, and Tom Yakaitis, for a shot of a rainbow peeking through trees.

People and Activities

First Place: Bob Lockwood, of Full Armour Studios, for his creatively-framed picture of his son Luke playing at Montgomery Park.

Second Place: Susan McDougall, for her shot of her son playing at Dickson-Murst Farm during the antique truck show in June.

Third Place: Trustee Stan Bond, for his photo of a fisherman by the Fox River at sunset.

The photos will be on display at Village Hall during Montgomery Fest on Aug. 13 and 14. The village’s new website is currently being designed by Kansas-based company CivicPlus, and is scheduled to go live on Dec. 9. Trustees are scheduled to get a look at the design in August.
