Patch Election Q&A: Stan Bond on Question #3

Stan Bond's answer to our third question.

The question:

One candidate has suggested returning to a village administrator form of government. How do you feel about the current village manager system? Do you see this as an area where the village could save money?

Stan's answer:

Legally, our form of government hasn't changed. While we talk about having a village manager, to adopt a village manager form of government would require a public referendum which I do not believe has happened. Some feel that the powers currently granted to that office are too broad and too absolute. In the spirit of continuous improvement, Kaizen to the Japanese, there is nothing wrong with revisiting that staff position after 10 years of experience with it and now with the knowledge that our situation in 2011 is considerably different than it was 10 years ago.

In the opinion of some residents, the trustees have been remiss by delegating or abdicating some important powers to the position of the village administrator. Many residents seem to want the elected officials to step up and be more responsible for more of the business and spending decisions of the village.
