Patch Election Q&A: Jeanne Felten on Question #4

The question:

What are your thoughts on a vehicle sticker system, such as the one Evanston uses, that would impose a “wheel tax” on vehicle owners? More broadly, how do you feel about increasing taxes on village residents?

I am not in favor of a vehicle sticker system at this time. Not only would it be an additional expense on our residents but it would also require administrative staff to run the program. Our police officers would then become the ones responsible for monitoring and tracking cars without stickers. With our current staffing levels this would be an unfair additional responsibility to place on our officers.
