Officials Want Property Tax Freeze for Montgomery

Village officials want to freeze the property tax levy at last year’s level and are scheduled to vote on that proposal in early December, according to a report.

A public hearing on the levy proposal will shortly precede the December vote, Sun-Times Media reports.

Municipalities are allowed to bump the levy by 5 percent or at a rate tied to rise in the Consumer Price Index, according to the report.

Instead of any hike, officials are pushing for a hold that won’t see taxes go up as property values drop, the Sun-Times Media report states.
