Montgomery Seeks New Village Clerk

Village president will appoint someone to replace Barbara Argo, whose last day is Feb. 28.

If you’re organized, have some time to attend village meetings, and know how to take good notes, Marilyn Michelini would like to hear from you.

Michelini, ’s village president, is searching for a new village clerk to replace Barbara Argo, who resigned last month. Argo’s last day on the job is Feb. 28, and Michelini needs to appoint a replacement by then.

The new clerk would serve until Argo’s current term ends in April 2013. The position of clerk is an elected one, and the appointee would then need to run for office to keep the job.

According to Michelini, it was a promotion at her other job that led to Argo’s resignation. Argo works at Caterpillar, and her new duties require her to travel, Michelini said.

“She was feeling like the additional time spent on her clerk duties was impacting on her family and home life,” Michelini said.

The village clerk attends two village board meetings and one committee of the whole meeting per month, transcribes minutes from those meetings, and signs documents at Village Hall at least once a week. The position pays $6,000 a year.

Michelini said she is looking for someone who can condense village meetings into manageable minutes, not simply transcribe the conversations.

Those interested in applying should send a resume and cover letter by March 11 to Michelini at 200 N. River St., Montgomery, IL  60538, or email it to michelini@ci.montgomery.il.us.
