Montgomery Seeks Community Input for Comprehensive Plan

The plan will address land use and development, transportation, neighborhoods, parks and open space, the environment and community facilities.

Montgomery residents are invited to participate in the first Comprehensive Plan Community Workshops being held by the Village in June.

The Village of Montgomery is beginning the process of creating a Comprehensive Plan called “Go Montgomery.”  The Plan will address land use and development, transportation, neighborhoods, parks and open space, the environment, community facilities, and much more.

This planning process will take approximately 10 months, and will result in a Comprehensive Plan that will serve as a foundation for decision making in the coming years.  The planning process will help to foster stewardship for the community and will address quality of life issues for all residents.

Go Montgomery can’t be completed without the participation of residents, property owners, and other stakeholders from throughout the community.  Yourinput and ideas are important, and the Village needs to hear what you have to say.

The first opportunity for the community to get involved will be a set of community workshops.  Although both are open to the public, each workshop willfocus on issues concerning residents living east or west of the Fox River.  The West Workshop will be held on June 11th at 7 pm at the Montgomery Police Station. The East Workshop will be held on June 12th at 7 pm at the Montgomery Campus of the Oswego Public Library.

The workshops will review the purpose of Go Montgomery, the planning process, and the schedule for the Plan.  The workshops will be an interactive experience designed to review, discuss, and identify conditions and potentials within Montgomery.  The results and feedback from the workshops, along with other community outreach activities, will be used to identify community priorities and objectives, and will serve as the foundation for Go Montgomery’s direction.

Another workshop designed specifically for business owners and operators will also be held on June 13th at 8:30 am. at the Montgomery Village Hall.

Earlier this year, the Village was awarded a $100,000 community development block grant from the State of Illinois to develop a new comprehensive plan. Montgomery’s current comprehensive plan is a decade old and has become outdated.

Embarking on a new comprehensive planning process will allow the Village to create a guide for economic, physical and social development.  This plan will ensure that decisions made by Village leaders are aligned with long-term goals determined by the community.
