Monday Deadline to Choose Recycling Cart Size

Allied Waste will provide a 65-gallon recycling cart to each home next month. If you want a different size - a smaller 35-gallon cart, or a larger 95-gallon one - you have until Monday to let them know.

During the week of Feb. 27, every home in will be receiving a covered recycling cart from Allied Waste Services. The default option is a 65-gallon cart, but if you want to go larger or smaller, at no extra charge, you have until Monday to let Allied know.

By now, every home in the village should have received a postcard with the options listed on it – you can choose a smaller 35-gallon cart, a larger 95-gallon one, or stick with the 65-gallon container. However, village officials say they have fielded several calls from residents who have not received their postcards.

If you didn’t, you’ll find the card attached to this story as a PDF file. If you’d like a smaller or larger cart, call Allied at 630-723-2801, or email them at cartdelivery.montgomery@republicservices.com, by Jan. 16. If you want to stick with the 65-gallon cart, you don’t need to do anything.

But, if you want to change it after Jan. 16, you’ll have to wait until August 1, and it’ll cost you a $40 fee.

The three cart sizes are on display at , 200 N. River St. The new recycling service is part of a five-year deal for trash pickup the village signed with Allied Waste in November. It includes a price increase—trash service will cost $16.80 a month, starting in February, and then rise incrementally each year.

Trash service has not significantly changed. Allied will still pick up two 33-gallon bags of trash, or the contents of two garbage containers, each week, as well as one large item. Allied will also take one bundle of brush or one bag of yard waste each week.
