Five Things to Do at Montgomery's Open House

The annual event is set for Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the police station. Here are five reasons to come on by.

There’s a veritable cornucopia of interesting activities awaiting you at this year’s Montgomery Open House on Saturday. Here’s a look at five things to do at the open house:

1. Meet your village officials. This is an obvious one, but the chance for one-on-one access to the people who govern Montgomery is important enough to clinch the top spot. Village President Marilyn Michelini will be on hand, as will several trustees and staffers. If you have a question or a problem, this is where you can meet the people who can answer or solve it.

2. Tour the police station. You ever drive by that massive building off of Route 30 and wonder just what goes on inside? Montgomery police will give you a first-hand look at how they do business every day.

3. Shred your unwanted documents. That’s right, there will be a shredding company on hand to dispose of your sensitive papers. This is actually a pretty popular event, so village leaders have asked that you keep it down to two banker’s boxes full of papers.

4. Help soldiers get cell phones. Village officials will be collecting old cell phones to refurbish and give to members of the armed forces. They’ll also be collecting unused prescription medication for proper disposal.

5. Get your child’s fingerprints taken. You remember doing this as a kid, right? Police will show kids how they take fingerprints, using child identity kits. They’ll also make sure your child’s car sear is properly installed.

This is in addition to the fun activities and giveaways for kids planned for the day. The open house runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the police station, 10 Civic Center Avenue. Admission is free. If you need more information, call Village Hall at 630-896-8080, ext. 1559.
