Nominate the Best-Dressed Montgomery Property

The Montgomery Beautification Committee's holiday decorations contest is underway. If you know of a home or commercial property with great lights and decorations, enter it!

Thinking of decking out your house out this holiday season in Clark Griswold style? If so, you may end up a winner in the Montgomery Beautification Committee’s holiday decorations contest.

Nominations are already coming in for the best dressed properties in the village, said Trustee Stan Bond, a co-chair of the committee.

The holiday decorations recognition program was a Beautification Committee staple in the village in years past, but “had gone inactive for a period,” he said.

“The village president mentioned when I assumed my new seat on the board that she hoped we would take a look at bringing back the decoration program because she’d gotten so many comments about it,” Bond said. “So that’s exactly what we’ve done.”

In years past, committee members would drive around the village scouting out the best bedecked homes.

“But that’s a lot of driving, especially with today’s gas prices,” Bond said. “And it also doesn’t involve the public very much. It seemed to us that it would make sense to let residents to nominate entries and become more part of the process. So anyone can nominate any property, residential or commercial, in Montgomery for consideration. It is entirely a volunteer, citizen-based effort.”

Nominations will be accepted through Monday, Dec. 12.

Committee members will then visit and judge each entry on Thursday, Dec. 15, and they hope to post the list of winners along with photos on the village of Montgomery’s new website, which goes live Dec. 9.

Residents can nominate their own property or someone else's. All that is needed is the address.

A sign will be placed in front of the properties selected, Bond said. Owners are asked to leave these signs up through the holidays, and they will be collected once the season is over.

Bond is hoping to see many more nominations come in.

“The goal is to get Montgomery lit up as nice as we can,” he said.

Properties can be nominated by submitting the address via e-mail here, or by calling the Village of Montgomery Public Works Department at (630) 896-9241.
