Veteran Officer Promoted to Deputy Chief

Sgt. Armando Sanders, who has been with the Montgomery Police Department since 2003, was promoted on April 3.

The has a new deputy chief.

Sgt. Armando Sanders was appointed to the deputy chief position on April 3, village leaders announced Monday. Sanders has been with the Montgomery Police Department since Sept. 2003, and was promoted to sergeant in 2010.

The position of deputy chief has been empty since Nov. 2010, when the previous deputy, Dan Meyers, was appointed chief.

Sanders, one of Montgomery’s Spanish-speaking officers, is a trained gang specialist. He was nominated for Kane County Officer of the Year in 2008, for his work on an armed robbery and carjacking case. He’s currently involved in the department’s leadership training program, and founded the Special Enforcement Team. He also coordinates work schedules and training for the department.

Sanders has served as a patrol sergeant, a field training officer and a defensive tactics instructor. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management from North Central College in Naperville, and completed his 14-week field training officer program at the Illinois State Police Academy.

“Sgt. Sanders has a proven record of dedication and commitment to the department, and I believe he will do extremely well in his new position as the police department moves forward,” said Chief Meyers.
