Police Searching for Missing Aurora Woman, Children

29-year-old Laureth "Laurie" May left her Aurora home with her three children Wednesday at 3:30 a.m, police said. She may have recently been seen in western Indiana. Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police: 630-256-5500.

Update from Aurora police: "Upon further investigation, the preliminary information we received that tied them to Indiana proved to be unfounded.  We reviewed video from the Hobart, IN, Wal-Mart and determined it was not Ms. May, her sons, nor the 17 year old missing out of Cicero.  We still have not had confirmation that a credit card was used in Gary.  In short, we still have not determined the whereabouts of Ms. May.  We continue to ask anyone with information to contact Aurora Police investigations at 630-256-5500."

May and her fiancée reportedly had a verbal fight Wednesday around 3:30 a.m., which ended when May woke the three children and left with them in her white 2001 Volvo station wagon, license plate 9590986, according to police. The Volvo also has a pink cancer ribbon on the rear bumper, police said.

Police said May gave no indications before leaving that she intended to hurt herself or the children.

May is a former teacher at a La Grange Highlands school, and Aurora police believe she may be in the company of one of her former students. According to this Chicago Tribune story, that student may be 17-year-old Destiny Gruba, whom Cicero police confirmed is also missing.

According to the Tribune, Cicero police believe May drove to Cicero and met with Gruba Wednesday afternoon.

On Friday morning, police said they believe May was in Indiana within the last 10 to 11 hours, based on sightings and credit card transactions. A credit card may have been used in the Gary, Indiana area on Thursday, police said, and someone may have seen May and the children at a Walmart in Hobart, Indiana.

Police said they received a call from a woman who said she spoke with May about her three children. She also said there were four other people with May, including one who matched Gruba's description, according to police.

Police are working with Walmart to retrieve security video.

May is described as a white female, 5 feet tall, 135 pounds, with red hair, blue eyes and freckles. She was last seen wearing a blue jean jacket with a fur collar and blue jeans. Her three sons are all fair-skinned black boys with black hair and brown eyes.

Quincy Collins is four feet tall, 40 pounds, and was last seen wearing blue and red pajamas with cars on them. Both Oliver and Spencer Collins are about two feet tall and 30 pounds. Both were last seen in blue footie pajamas, Oliver's with ladybugs on them, and Spencer's with snaps in front.

According to the Tribune, Gruba is described as white, five-foot-10, 235 pounds, with long brown curly hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police at 630-256-5500 or their local authorities.
