Police Blotter: Elderly Woman Targeted in IRS Scam

Thomas LaChance, 24, of the 200 block of Fernwood, Montgomery, was arrested by Oswego police at Kirkland Circle and Kendall Point Drive and charged with possession of cannabis, police said.

An employee at the Oswego Caterpillar plant, 275 Route 31, reported that someone stole his cell phone, according to Kendall County Sheriff's police.
Someone used an unincorporated Oswego woman's credit card to make online purchases, and also attempted to open another line of credit using her information, Kendall County Sheriff's polices aid.

A 76-year-old Oswego woman told police she had been defrauded after an unknown individual claiming to work for the IRS requested she send $4,987 to pay owed taxes. The incident is under investigation, police said.

Kendall County Sheriff's police responded to a report of residential and vehicle burglary in the 0-100 block of Hampton in unincorporated Montgomery. The victim said toys and other items were taken from an unlocked garage. Someone also entered an unlocked vehicle, but nothing was missing, police said.

Neal Edward Dewitz, 45, of the 0-100 block of Saugatuck Road, unincorporated Montgomery, was arrested by Kendall County Sheriff's police and charged with criminal damage to property after allegedly damaging a vehicle, police said.
